How to Perform the Power Clean Olympic Deadlift

Travis Steffen: This is Travis Steffen for workoutbox.com, bringing you another Olympic movement called the power clean. The power clean is another skill transfer exercise of the full clean. Olympic weightlifting is speed strength; this isn't your typical slow power lifting movement. This is an ideal type of movement for athletes who actually want applicable strength to their sport because the movement is quick and explosive much like the movements that they need to be performing in competition.

Notice that I am going to be duplicating the movement of the clean deadlift until I get to the point where the bar is at my thighs, after which I am going to be extending my hips forcibly propelling the bar up towards my chest. After that point, I am going to be throwing my elbows underneath the bar and catching the bar across my shoulders. Power clean as well as every other Olympic movement are very technical movements in which you really need to practice the techniques over and over again in order to make sure you're getting them right, because if you aren't getting them right, you are going to be getting the most you can out of the movement.
