To be an effective skater, to be safe on the ice, and to make your all skills better in hockey, a player must master the power position. The power position is your ideal skating posture. It is the difference between having agility or not. Skating with power or being slow, being balanced on the ice or being at risk.

Players, here is how to check your power position. As soon as you get on the ice before games and practices, take a look down at your feet. Can you see your toes? If you can't, you should get lower. Sitting down, flexing at the knees until you can't see your toes any longer. This is your power position.

Coaches reinforce the power position constantly in all your skating drills and activities. Ask for it by name. Remind your players. Choose low organizational games and activities to reinforce the stance.
