How to Perform the Trill Lick
Hello again. On today’s menu we have a tasty little tidbit called the Trill Lick. The trill is to go rapidly between two notes, back and forth between two notes. We’re going to explore some different uses of this tool today. My real time students tend to like when we put it into a four beat phrase, we call it trilling.
And I will map that out a little clearer later, but this way it’s totally interchangeable with a chord and the blues. You can do a bar of shuffle, a bar of trill. But continue to explore. There are lots of other uses maybe a slow blues kind of a gospely sound, or right in the middle of a lead, even rock and roll if you tweak it a little bit. So you'll find a lot of uses for it.
What I'm doing is um doing it for a chord of A. So I'm doing it in the 5th fret. If I want to do it over a C chord I will do the same thing at the 8th fret. Let’s go back to A. My first finger is in D-G-B at the 5th fret and I'm going to balance my second finger off the G string. I'm going to start with my second finger hitting on that G string so its trill hit. Then my third finger borrows the same three string D-G-B at the 7th fret and I go back to trill. So I have trill, hit, third, trill. And then the look the third finger is going up the D string seven of five and then down to the A string of the 7th.
Tuesday 4:00 is still open, let’s get in touch. But actually that’s the beauty of documenting it here too. We can learn from this, you can do it in your playing and then come back and review and you'll have another perspective maybe get some more ideas out of it. So there will be a link on my lesson’s page at kennylavitz.com so that you can come and check the channel and from time to time I’ll be putting up more ideas and we can all review it too. It’s always a good thing.
I strongly suggest that once you get used to the lick put it into a musical context. Practice it musically. So in other words like I did before with bar of shuffle or bar of trill, it works really well. And that’s all for today I hope you enjoyed and play hard and be well.
