This is Aaron from PhotoshopDemos.com and today we are going to be looking at creating your own desktop wallpaper from the Twilight. There would be kind of fun. This movie is kind of popular right now. I actually went and saw it this past week I thought it was pretty good and I have heard from a lot of people that the book and the movie syncope pretty well.
But anyway, I want to show you a couple of key things on how to actually make your own desktop wallpaper because a lot of times you may go online and find stuff and want to download things, but you can actually make a wallpapers pretty easily and pretty quickly yourself using Photoshop and you can do some really cool effect. So without further, let us go and get started.
So the first thing I did was I went online to look for some images and I knew that with this being a popular movie that there are probably some photos out there online that obviously you can probably download off a Google or wherever else that you like to search. And I did find this particular image and this particular image is off the two main characters from the movie and basically there is a scene where there are kind of going through the trees and basically this is probably like a production still that was shot kind of like off camera.
But anyway, I though it worked particularly well for the kind of shot that I wanted to do for my desktop because they are kind of like both looking in a direction towards the edge and then at that way, I could position them very well sort of off to the side here along with the title. So just thought that might be kind of a nice layout.
So, I will go and show you how to actually get this image. Now, before you do that, I do want to actually review a couple of things like how I sort of got the idea to do this. Well, I started looking for some of the other movie posters and some of the other images online for this particular movie and there are a couple things that you may notice and if you have seen the movie, you would obviously know like the whole thing. This guy is vampire and skin is sort of pale and with the movie poster, they actually or it is probably a book cover or a poster. Basically, they made his eye light up here a little bit more yellow and obviously trying to make her skin a little bit more warm and his a little bit more dull and gray.
So, another thing is that all the skin tones are very smooth. Everything is kind of almost airbrush and it sort of like this in a fact that really, it is almost like it is painted versus it is actually being a photograph.
And so, those are kind of the effects that I am really going for and I want to show you one more before we move on because that is really the key to really any good kind of photography or really creating this sort of unique images as looking and doing some research until I want to create this image. And once again, I know this is kind of pixilated, but the reason I am zooming in is really lower as image, but again you can see it looks really airbrush. Everything is really smooth and almost looks like it has been painted from far away. It actually looks very painted.
So everything has been really airbrush and this is probably an original photograph that was then sort of just kind of Photoshop into this painted sort of look stylized image. And I will show you exactly how to get that.
So, let us go and move on to our actual photograph and you can see here what I have done now. I am going to show you how to achieve this final effect, but there is probably multiple ways you can do it. I am just going to show you the way that I did it and you can see that I have a variety of different layers here, different things going on. I am going to explain each on of those and kind of show you how I got to this effect.
So, the first that we actually need to do is start with the brand new blink background and the first thing that we will do is we will look at image size. We are going to start with 1024 x 768. That is a pretty standard image size these days. Most people, I would say if you have between like a 15 to 19 inch or 15 to 17 inch or 19 inch monitor, this is fine. This will actually fit because out of a 100%, that is going to fit cross most of your desktops especially if you have liked a 15 inch monitor.
So, now that is now created, I am just going to zoom in to 100% here and we are going to change our background to solid black to start with and I am just going to hit alt +delete on my keyboard to fill that in.
Now with my layer here, when you create a brand new layer and a brand new document, this layer is going to be actually unlocked. So then what we will do is we are going to actually come up here to a filter and we want to look under. There is a special little filter under here which actually creates clouds and so I am just going through my menus here because I am just kind of forgetting for a second. So, it is under render. Under the render menu, there is the thing could clouds and you can basically click on that.
Now, that is going to instantly create this cloud pattern automatically which is a really, really quick little nice effect. Now, to sort of enhance this, what I am going to do is I am going to duplicate that layer and then I am going to go through my different blending modes here and look for the one that is a little bit more dramatic and I like to multiple. That seems to be a little bit more dramatic and you basically get this really nice light combination of these, like really, really intense kind of like scary looking clouds almost turning more to fog. So we are going to leave that for right now and go in and zoom out. And I am going to hit the F key on my keyboard really quick and that is going to actually put me in full screen mode which I just found out it is going to work for this particular tutorial because of the way it works. So I am going to leave that off right now.
All right! So next step is I am just going to merge this together for right now because I am not going to need those individual layers for anything else. Now that I have those layers, what I want actually do is I want to create sort of like a little pocket right over here for the actors to kind of sit in size of. So what we will do is I am going to take my elliptical mark key here and I am going to hold down my shift key so I can make a nice big perfect circle and I am going pull that over the edge here and you can see, I kind of have like this half moon shape going on. I am just going to scoop this over just a little bit. So I am going to back to my layers. I am going to create a new layer and once again I am going to hit alt +delete. I am going fill that with solid black. Now, I am going to also hit control +D or command +D on a Mac just to deselect that outer edge or that selection.
And this video is going to probably be in two parts just say you know because it is quite length to show you this entire process. I am at seven minutes right now. So we will be doing the second part in the next video.
The next thing we are going to do is we are going to do image and we actually want to blur this. We are going to go filter and we are going to blur and we are going to do gausses and blur here. Okay and we are going to go and blur this all the way out completely.
So you can see just by doing that, we now have this like really dark area over here and I am just going to take that and hold down my alt key and just drag that just to bring one more layer forward so that it gets a little bit darker over here. Now, it is sort of time to bring the actors into the little pocket area. So we are going to bring that photo that we have from before, this one here into the new image.
So, I will go and use my rectangle mark key tool here just to quick control +C and kind of get this out the way from a moment and I am going to hit control +V. I am going to zoom out and paste those guys in then bring them down under this corner, okay.
Now, you can see it is a little bit too short for this image. I am going to hit control +T and I am not worried about scaling this. I would not do that if this was print document, but bec
