Let's take a look at a practice plan, a two hour great practice plan that will be highly organized having your players running away on from drill to drill, section to section and have your team as prepared as possible for game time.
Now, we always start our practice with a warm up, a form run warm up, and we are going to start with a form run to keep our bodies warm, get our bodies blood pumping and get our bodies warmed up a little bit and then we are going to stretch for 5 minutes. I think within 10 minutes, you are going to do a form run and a stretch and that's a good way to get the kids ready to go into the drills.
The next part of the practice needs to be an individual practice. That means you are going to break apart each individual position and do individual drills with each individual position. I would say 20 minutes on an individual's drill session is about appropriate for any level of football.
After the individual period, now we will break up into groups. So you may want to have the receivers and DBs working together. The line backers and the running backs working group work, and the offensive lineman and the defensive lineman working together combined group type work.
I would do that for about another 20 minutes, and then we're going to break up and even get into bigger groups. We may have seven on seven, which we call a seven on seven passing drill which will do the defensive line and, to make sure, the line backers and the secondary will be together working against the receivers, the quarterback and the running back, and the offensive line will work as a group by themselves.
We will then go from individual to group work and then we're going to end up the end of the practice with a 20 minute team period, where we have eleven on eleven and we are going to go from again, individual periods, that group, smaller group periods to big eleven on eleven periods.
The end of a good practice always incorporates special teams because you have to kick extra points and pump the ball and block punts and do all those things. So a ten minute special team's period at the end followed by a ten minute conditioning period, and that's basically a pretty good two hour practice.
