How to Plan a Procreation Vacation
Daddy Clay: This week we’re taking a look at a new trend in early parenting, conception travel.
Daddy Brad: Now, some parents are taking the birth planning process to a whole new level. Picking a birthday and then they're planning on getting lucky. And we're not talking about Las Vegas, or maybe we are?
Daddy Clay: That’s right. This week in the lab we're taking an Ovulation Vacation.
Daddy Brad: Today's episode is brought to you by the BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light. Now, you might not need the travel crib light on ovulation vacation, but you will on all the other ones after that, BabyBjorn.
Daddy Clay: Do parents really need augmentation in this, perhaps the easiest phase of the whole parenting journey? To find out, we asked some ovulation vacationers themselves, why hit it on the road?
Chris Justice: There are number of variables involved. Number one, my wife did not want to be pregnant during the summertime. And as you know Texas is very hot. So number two, we wanted to have the child during Mother's Day Weekend and three my birthday is on the same sort of weekend.
Well I said, "Honey, biology doesn't happen that way." And she said, "Yes it does. There's an app for that." So, we downloaded an application and it predicted when everything would have to happen. And therefore we planned to stop the pill three months prior. We booked the vacation on the day, so that when we arrived at the hotel the day she was ovulating and then we had the next seven days to discuss it.
If you're going to take an ovulation vacation, number one, do not go to a large mega resort. Make sure that the hotel you're going to be at is intimate, less than a 100 rooms. There's a secret that started to emerge from some of my internet research. All of my research led me back to potassium. And a great source of potassium were bananas. And so I started on a regimen, six bananas every morning. And we have a baby boy on the way due on May 7th, 2010.
Daddy Brad: Now, if you do decide to take a preggymoon, here are a few tips to make sure that bun gets it in the oven.
Daddy Clay: To start planning your ovulation vacation, the first thing you need to do is pick your child's birthday. Some couples will want to plan around a season. They don't want to be pregnant during the summer. You want to bust out your Michael Jackson wall calendar and take a look at your birthday and count back about 38 weeks. Then you need to figure out when exactly your spouse, wife or your partner is ovulating. And for that, you'll need one of these. Although it looks a lot like a pregnancy test, this is actually an ovulation test. They are wildly available, relatively cheap. You want to start testing two or three months before you plan your travel, so you know exactly when your spouse, partner or other will be ovulating. That's the key thing. You've got to make sure there is an egg in play. Otherwise, your vacation will be horribly conceived.
Daddy Brad: Remember, when picking a destination, you're going to be talking about where junior was conceived for years to come. Reno? Really, dad? Think about taking direct flights or shorter drives to minimize the stress level. Don’t bring your laptop and don’t talk about work. Remember, the objective is one of this.
Daddy Brad: When it comes to fertility, healthy lifestyle is important for the man as it is for the woman. Some couples before they go on their ovulation vacation starts getting from alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, that sort of thing, eating healthy even working out, taking vitamins together. It’s really important for you to stay out of a hot tub because getting some urge in hot water will kill off you sperms by the millions. You got to be careful when you dunk your junk.
Daddy Clay: So, Daddy Brad, ovulation vacation. Did you, would you?
Daddy Brad: I did not but I should would because you know what Daddy Clay, any vacation that has the objective of getting lucky, I am in.
Daddy Clay: I can see how some dads would be a little hesitant that trying process can be a nice one and they'd want to extend that rather than compress it to one weekend. But I also see that it's a great thing to honor this moment and just sort of rise up spotlight and that's very cool. Another thing to keep in mind for young couples, I mean this can be expensive, a weekend away, several hundred dollars. Maybe it's just a road trip to Reno.
Daddy Brad: Not Reno. Unless you live in Reno!
Daddy Clay: If you guys have thoughts about this, please drop a comment on this video. Did you take an ovulation vacation, let us know. Go to dadlabs.com, join in the conversation. Please share your opinions with us. You’ll certainly hear back from us.
