Stephen Phillips: Welcome back to Great Cocktails. When you are planning your next cocktail party, pay attention to the mix and I am not just talking about mixing your drinks, but mixing your crowd.
A diverse group of guests prevents everyone from talking about one thing like work, kids, the neighborhood dogs.
Kathy Casey: The things that make a successful cocktail party are the guests. I always invite a group of collected people. I think you know don't just stick with your friends that you see everyday, but kind of mix it up. Invite people that don't know each other so you great conversation.
Julie Reiner: Well, atmosphere is a big thing. You want it to be warm and friendly. You want the cocktails to be great.
Audrey Saunders: Well, with regards to cocktail parties, the one thing that I always do, like to do is I always make sure that there is one drink that basically is almost a punch. Always, a cocktail or a punch makes people feel very, very welcomed.
Stephen Phillips: Whatever you do at your cocktail party, don't just stand around and drink the whole night; party games are one of my favorites. It's a great alternative, plus it's a great way for your guests to get to know each other. Trivia, is always crowd pleaser, you can buy cocktail cards with trivia on it or you can make your own.
Hey guys, guys, I got a little cocktail trivia for you. Anybody want to play?
Female Speaker: Sure, yeah.
Stephen Phillips: Alright, listen up. The Bloody Mary was named in honor of a. Mary Tyler Moore, b. Mary Poppins, c. Queen Mary I, or d. The Virgin Mary.
Female Speaker: c. Queen Mary I.
Stephen Phillips: That's right. I thought it was Mary Poppins. Now which one of your friends has the highest cocktail IQ?
It's your move. Now this may sound old school, but I like to setup board games up my bar in New York City. In fact, we are known for it. Games like Connect Four, the Jenga, it's great for a home cocktail party too. Something easy and fun ensures your guests won't get bored.
They can mellow out with the cocktail and at the same time you're keeping them entertained. I win. Pretty sneaky, sis. So in your next cocktail party, it's game on.
