I know that spring is probably the last thing on your mind. But we often have to think ahead in the garden. So let me inspire you with some of this beautiful daffodil blooms.
If you would like this kind of beauty in your garden next spring, you will need to plant your bulbs now. You cannot believe the varieties that are available. There are literally thousands. Just take a look at some of this. And that is not even scratching the surface of all the different colors and flower forms. Daffodils are a snap to grow. All you need is full sun even a partial shade will do and a well drained soil. If you plant them properly, they will come back year after year with blooms.
When I plant, I like to group the bulbs and clamps of at least 15, spacing them about six to eight inches apart. I always try to work in a generous dose of composed or pit and bone mill usually about two to three tablespoons per bulb. I am often asked, how do you plant this? Well, a good rule of thumb is to plant them at a depth three times the width of the ball. So in this case, it would be one, two, three.
One of the problems with other spring flowering bulbs such as tulips is that squirrels and golfers often dig them out and eat them. That is not the case with the daffodils. They are repulsed by their flavor. Now, if you want to enjoy daffodils in your garden this spring, now is the time to prepare for them. So pick up your bulbs early so you can get the best selection.
