Hi! I'm Danny from Gill from Lick library and in this lesson I'm going to show how to play 12 bar blues using harmonics. Goes something like this [Demonstration].
So let’s break this down. We’re going to start of with an E five chord open low E second fret of the A string [Demonstration]. Strike that again [Demonstration]. Now open low E along with the fourth fret of the A string [Demonstration] and then the fifth fret of the A string [Demonstration].
And now, here come the harmonics, fifth fret to the fourth fret on the low E string [Demonstration]. And then fifth fret A string, fifth fret D string [Demonstration]. And we will play that phrase three times [Demonstration]. On the fourth time, the harmonics will be slightly different [Demonstration]. Fifth fret on the low E string, jump to the fifth fret of the D string followed by four to five on the A string [Demonstration].
So there’s the fourth measure [Demonstration]. Here’s measure number six. We’re going to move to an A chord [Demonstration]. Here, we’re playing the same riff that we started with an E, but this time using the open A string, second fret of the D string two times [Demonstration]. Open A fourth fret of the D string once, fifth fret of the D string once and then the harmonics on A string five to four, D string five, G string five. So here’s that measure [Demonstration].
Now we’re going to repeat this measure, but the harmonics will be slightly different [Demonstration]. Here, the harmonics will be fourth fret on the A string, five on the G, and then four to five on the D string. And that’s measures six. Now back to the first measure this would be measure number seven [Demonstration]. The next measure, measure eighth is the same as measure number four [Demonstration].
Now we’re going to get to the B chord. We’re going to play the second fret of the A string along with the fifth fret of the D string, strike that two times [Demonstration]. Reach up, grab six on the D while playing two on the A string [Demonstration] and then back to that B five chord [Demonstration]. And here the harmonics will be third fret on the low E string [Demonstration]. A string fourth to three followed by four on the D string [Demonstration]. So this measure with the B chord which is measure nine [Demonstration]. Now back to the A chord and the harmonics here will be five A, four A followed by five G four D [Demonstration].
And now we’re into the turn around where the final two measures. We’re playing E five chord two times [Demonstration]. Next chord, five A, six D followed by four A, seven D and then a C7 chord, three on the A, two on the D, three on the G, play that two times [Demonstration]. Move it back one half step to B7 followed by F7 to E7 [Demonstration].
Alright, so let’s go back now and piece this all together from the top. Here we go [Demonstration].
There’s a 12 bar blues in the key of E with some harmonics.
