Music playing
The next thing is about sitting position. Now, there are two different types of sitting positions that most people use. The first one that I am going to show you is the “folk sitting position” and that is where you are going to have the guitar here on your right leg.
A lot of folk players and just cruise the guitar player guys (Music playing) they like this position right here. So, you are going to hold this here. What you are going to do is you should have the guitar maybe six inches from your body because a lot of your sound comes from these back keys here, which is called the soundboard.
And you do not want to muffle that by having it too close to your body. So, bring in about six inches out and then just lean it in to you, like this here. The other point of contact right here, is about mid way of your forearm, have that resting right here. I see guys like my student holding it like this. You do not want to crib him, it is not baby, it is a guitar.
You want to have that, just about like this. So, when you do it like or when you put it about mid way on your forearm, right here, you can see that your hand is automatically in the right position.
Now, that is one position. The other one is the classical guitar sitting position, which I recommend more. My problem with the folk position is here. Now, if I am trying to see my fingerboard, I have to lean over like this. Once, you have been sitting like that for about two hours, you are going to have a crick in your neck to beat it bad.
Once again, as I said, it is up to you. What I like to use is the classical guitar sitting position. How we do that? We are going to move this into the other leg, into your left leg. Same thing, you are going to have your four points of contact. Number one is on your left leg with this, right here, and sitting right here. Remember, keep that thing about six inches off your body so that sound will resonate up that soundboard back there and what we are going to do is just lean it back there to make the third point of contact.
Finally, same position about half way up your forearm right here. Put that and you are right here (Music playing) and you are ready to go. Now, when you need to see your fingerboard to make sure that you are playing the chords right. All you have to do is basically, just glance in that general position and boom, right there, you can see everything clear as daddy (Music playing) and that is what I recommend. Use the classical sitting position. It is much more comfortable and it is more user friendly as far as just playing the guitar.
