How to Play “Back In Black” by ACDC on a Guitar
Hey! Welcome to GuitarLessons.com. I'm Nate Savage and in this lesson, we’re gong to be learning ACDC’s Back in Black.
The first thing you’re going to need to know with what to learn to play this song is you’re going to need to know a D chord, an A chord an E, D, and a few power chords. You’re also going to need to know how to bend the strings too, so brush up on that to full song. I start off by just muting the strings around here, around the fifth fret or so and striking from the bottom few strings just like I’ll count off.
[Demonstration]
Then, you’re coming down to an E power chord right here and play just those three bottom strings.
[Demonstration]
Now, we’re going to go to the D chord and play just the D string with the G string and the B string, and then you hit that three times.
[Demonstration]
And make sure you’re muting the high E string and the other two strings the low E string and the A string when you’re playing those. So, they don’t ring out when you don’t want them to.
[Demonstration]
Then you grab an A power chord right here on the second fret which is your index finger and play just the A string, the D string and the G string, the same rhythm.
[Demonstration]
So now, you’ve got the chords for that down, we’re going to play the little riff that’s attacked in 80 beats progression. All of that is in the E minor pentatonic scale. We’re going to start on your G note on your E string, on the third fret with your third finger.
[Demonstration]
With that string open next.
[Demonstration]
And then play the same fret on the next string over the B string with the same finger.
[Demonstration]
So you have and play open on the same string
[Demonstration]
Then, you’re going to grab on the second fret on your G string. You bend that up.
[Demonstration]
Let it down, and play that G open.
[Demonstration]
So the whole thing would sound something like this.
[Demonstration]
And then you’re going to go back to the E power chord that you did and that we played when we started and play it the whole sequence over again.
[Demonstration]
And here’s the last little riff of the verse. You’re going to start with your pinky on the seventh fret of E string. Play that note.
[Demonstration]
And play the fourth fret with your index finger.
[Demonstration]
Then go back to the seventh fret with your pinky.
[Demonstration]
And hit the fifth fret with your second finger.
[Demonstration]
Back to your pinky on the seventh
[Demonstration]
Then you’re going to go to the sixth fret, with your third finger.
[Demonstration]
Then go back to your pinky one more time and hit that twice.
[Demonstration]
Slide down. So the whole little riff right there and the whole section of this, I’ll do it a little bit slowly for you.
[Demonstration]
And when you slide down you want to make sure that when you’re sliding down just a far enough to come catch this E power chord that you’re going to have to play to go back into the progressions.
[Demonstration]
And then it come right in from a slide and right in to an E power chord, so I’ll play the whole thing one more time for you, and we’ll go back into the progression.
[Demonstration]
So now, you’ve got the verse that you’ve just learned. Let’s learn the chorus. All you need to know for the chorus are few bar chords, and the G, like a regular open G chord.
Let me play it for you and then we’ll learn the sequence of the D chorus.
[Demonstration]
The first that we’re going to do is come and grab an A power chord on the second fret.
[Demonstration]
And then you’re going to hit the E power chord same fret which is just going to play the bottom three strings.
[Demonstration]
Then, come up here to your second fret of your index finger. You’ll get the D power chord.
[Demonstration]
And then down to an A.
[Demonstration]
Then back up to the B.
[Demonstration]
So that’s the whole first sequence.
[Demonstration]
You’re going to play that again.
[Demonstration]
And here’s our changes that should be grab on G major chord.
[Demonstration]
And the D.
[Demonstration]
And an A power chord
[Demonstration]
And then come up with your little finger on the third fret then grab the G note, then bend it up a little bit.
[Demonstration]
And go back to an A
[Demonstration]
So the whole second sequence is this right here.
[Demonstration]
So let me repeat the whole thing together for you one more time and then we’ll take with an ending.
[Demonstration]
Here’s the ending. You’re going to hit and take the D chord same tune that you use earlier, then you’re going to hit another D chord, which closes up the chords.
[Demonstration]
So I hope that you have learned the song “Back in Black” by the ACDC. I’ll just break out your guitar, and have some fun out of it!
