This means that he is taking good shots, it does not mean I have a 6’8” guy on top of me and I have seen it over. That is not considered a game shot. We are talking about normal game shots. But most players are hesitant when they catch the ball and they are a little bit open to shoot. So you have to be willing to shoot the ball. And the more you practice shooting if you become a high volume pre-shooter, you are to become a high volume floor. Now if they have a confidence to shoot the ball you have to do what? Get it back so you got to put it a lot of repetition.
Repetition is called the mother of skill. The more repetitions you do, the greater your skills increase. So, we will warm up this way, we go into triple threat. Go ahead coach. This is spot number one, shoot when you are ready. And she will warm up just right here. Go to spot two, spot two is on the sideline. When we put on spot two, we always aim at the back of the rim.
The reason we aim at the back of the rim is if she shoots the ball with back spin and hits the front of the rim, where does the ball spin? It spins back off. Now if she aims at the back of the rim, and she has back spin on the ball and you can see that it spins backwards into the basket. That is one reason we always aim at the back of the rim. Second reason we aim at the back of the rim is because if the ball hits long on the back and bounces out, does it tend to go shorter on the rebound or longer? It will go longer, the rebound will tend to go longer when you hit back of the rim.
The third reason is that when you are tired, you get into the fourth quarter, you start to pull your shot a little bit short, you have a six inch variance in that rim that allows you to still make the basket if you are aiming at the back. If you shoot short in the fourth quarter at the front of the rim it is probably going to hit the bottom sometimes you just almost drop under because you are fatigued and you are tired.
So in order to get you in the habit of aiming at the back of the rim as we go through this five spot drill, we will also implement what we call a short shot principle.
