Okay, let’s move now to the 2nd string which is the A string, and we’re going to learn up to the 5th fret, which is A, B flat, or A#, B natural, C, C#, or D Flat, and D. Now you said, didn’t he say those notes before? Yes, because if you notice on your instrument I said those right here from where the A string started. Yes, those are the same notes. So, the E string, if I go to the 5th fret, why the 5th fret, because that’ s where the A string begins. So, if I go right here, I’m really playing the same notes that are on the A string, okay.
So, therefore if you learn these notes, you also learn these notes, right? There’s a message to the madness. So, then besides learning up to the 5th fret, you’ll be learning even farther, okay? Alright, so let’s do the same thing with the D string, the D, D#, or E flat, we got E, we’ve got F, we’ve got F#, or G flat, and we got a G. So, wow, we’ve also learned these notes, same thing.
So D, D#, or E flat, E, F, F#, or G flat, and G, okay? So those notes are right here on the A string, same thing that they are on the G string. We got G, and let’s go to the G string, the G, G#, A, A3, or B flat, and got B natural, and we got C, okay? Therefore, we can start to figure out where our different notes are. Just by staying in these 5 frets, if you learn all of the notes in these 5 frets, you’ll know a lot. You’ll know a lot of your base. You’ll actually know your base up to here. And then you need to know, how to get up to your 12th fret.
So, if I learn all the notes up to the 5th fret, I will have learn my base up to here. And that’s pretty good. So, if you can learn that, and like I say this chart would be clearly labeled on the Icons of Rock website, and you can download this, and you can have it for your very own. And this will help you like I Said, in knowing your notes.
So, we want to go back and just review all of our notes, and learning our notes up to the 5th fret. And when you are playing besides when you are doing your exercises of 1, 2, 3, 4, after you become familiar with the 1, 2, 3, 4, challenge yourself and say what are the notes when I do it 1, 3, 2, 4 or 4, 1, 2, 3. Besides doing the numbering, say the notes, so that you look become familiar with it.
And then, the next thing you do a habit that you’ll have when you first begin to play the base, is playing the base and your looking at your hand. Then, the next thing you want to do is play the notes and say them without even looking down there. Do I do this all the time? No. I always look, and just to help myself out. Then, because I think it’s cool. You know, because when you look at it, you go (Music Playing).
So, I can look at my base, so I can somehow, hope that, by looking at it, it’s going to help me play the notes better, 0340, but it’s something that I do, that’s a bad habit. That you should be better a—
