Okay, so let us go back now and we are going to sub divide and play just an octave bass line that makes sense that has a groove to it, okay?
[demonstration] a simple quarter note stuff.
The quarter note, if you noticed, all that I did was take out one of the beats. [demonstration] and I created a groove just like that, just by eliminating something. So, it is very simple to get a bass line that has some meaning to it and that can make a hit record out of it.
So, when we are playing the bass line, it is important to remember that we are the bottom with the foundation of the bass line and that without us, the band cannot go on. They need us. We are the most important thing. Let me tell you differently that we are the most important thing because we decide how the song is going to go. So, when we were still learning our notes, all I am still playing is one note, G. We are doing basic stuff though. [demonstration]. We have not really even got intricate and we are able to do [demonstration] one, two, three… rest on four. And then, one, two, three… rest. [demonstration]. We have not even added more than one note but we got a groove and we are able to hold down the bottom.
Now, all that we are going to go is go [demonstration]. So, what we are going to do is add an octave in there. And if you read your note and know your notes, you know what an octave can be.
So, let us listen to the beat and let us play our little lick with the octave involved.

Okay. And then, when we add some basic things, we can actually play a whole blues progression just by doing that. We are going to learn a basic progression, which is going to be one, four, five. And you asked me what the one and the four and the five, we explained that in a different section of this DVD so you will learn what that means. So, this is one, four and five.
