Here is a nice easy lesson on how to play Can You Feel the Love Tonight, great Disney song from the Lion King and first of all we are going to go through the opening, I will play it through once for you just to give you an idea what we are going to teach here. That is the opening from it very simple the way I have done it there.
So where do we start, we are going to use four chords here, we are going to use a C, so find your C note here, that is your Brad spread, that is your C chord. We are going to also use a Dm, so find your D, there is that same spread, that is a Dm. We are going to use an F and we are going to use a G. Those are the four chords in the opening.
In our right hand we are going to start here with this E note right here, okay nice and slowly we are going to go through this so I will call out the chords for you. It is a C chord and then a G down to an F, C, an F, C, and a Dm and then walk up, then a G, okay, that goes into this song. So, let us go through that again. Starting off with a C chord and an E note here, nice and slow, C chord, G, an F, and a C and an F, C, make a mistake if you want too, and Dm, walk up. Then let us go through that one more time here okay. C, G, F, C, F, C, and a Dm then walk up a G. There is the opening for the song now we will do the main part.
Now, we are into the middle of the song and the—it is actually very repetitive. So once you learn the main part of it, that is pretty easy. We are going to start off with an F chord here and this is the part we are going to learn, pretty simple. There is your F chord, start off with an A here and down to a C. Do that again, and we are going to do that three times so let us do that, here is the difference, up to there and an F chord.
We will do that part again, down to C and F and a G. Let us go through the whole part again, we will do that first part three times, and it just a little bit of a variance on the third time through. Now we start on an F chord, C, three times, that is two, that is the difference—F chord. Okay, that is the middle part. We will do it one more time. F, C chord, one more time, F chord and then a G. That is the middle part of the song and now we will move on to the chorus.
Now we are going to move in to the end of the song the chorus and again we are starting with this E note and going up to the top here and a C chord on your left hand. I will just run through this part slowly for you to give you an idea what we are going to learn here.
[Demo]
Let us go through that bit by bit here now, the first part we are going to start off with a C chord here, and going up to the top G here. And a G chord, an Am and an F down to C, F, and a G, let us go over that again. C chord, G, Am, F, and then a C, F and a G. The next part, we are starting off with an F chord and the C, an Em, here up here this top G again, and an Am, a Dm and then a G. Do that one more time here, F, and a C, Em then an Am, Dm.
I will do the full chorus through one more time nice and slow here for you, starting off with a C chord, sing it to yourself if you want while you are playing it, sometimes helps, okay. C, G, Am, F, C, Dm, and then G, to an F, C, Em, Am, Dm. Okay, that is the chorus, basically you know the whole song now. I am just going to show you the variation of the—how you finish that last part on the ending now. It goes, here is what we are going to change this is the Dm, your G, back to a C, so the ending will go like this. You got the whole song. Good luck with it, let me know how you make out.
