How to play combined String Skipping with Sweep Picking
Hi, this is Andy James from licklibrary.com. And, in this tutorial, we are going to be combining string skipping with sweep picking. Let me just play the exercise for you and I am going to break them down.
Okay, we are going to start this from this and we are going to sweep the first half of this arpeggio. So at 12 to 15, that is of course the 14th fret on the A and the D. 12 on the G, hammer on 16th on the G. Now this is where the string is skipping. We are going to skip out the base string by 12 to 15, 12 in high, and 16 to 12 on the G. Then we are going to play 14 on the D, 12 to 16 on the G. 12 to 15 slows at the 19 on high. Pull of to 15 on a high. Hammer on 17 on the B, 16 slows it to 12 on the G. So we have got this.
The when we get to 16 on the G, we are going to play it 12 to 15, 12 in high. 16 on the G, 12 in high, 16 pull off to 12, and then hammer on 16 on the G. So it is quite simple. Arpeggio is this.
Okay, the second arpeggio which is a D major is on the 10th fret on the lower. 9 on the A, hammer on to 12 on the A string. Then power and play the 12th fret on the D string. Then 11 on the G by the 10th fret, across the B in the high so we have got this. Then 14 on the high slot up to 17, pull of to 14 again. 15 on the B, 14 on the G. Then we have got 12 on the D, 11 to 14 on the G. Then 10 to 14 on the high, 14 on the G, 10 on the high, 14 pull off to 11 on the G, 12 to 11 back to 12 on the D. 11 to 14 on the G, 10 on the high, 14 pull off to 11 hammer on to 14 on G.
Okay the third position is exactly the same as position one, which was the E minor one that we looked at and it said B minor that is exactly the same pattern. Then for the last arpeggio, it is going to be from the 8th fret on the lower E and this is going to be a C major so the first half of that arpeggio is the same as the D major. Then we are going to start at to 15 on high, pull off to 12, 13 on the B, 12 on the G, slow it down to 9 on the G so we have got this.
Then we have got 10 on the D, nine on the G up to 12. Eight to 12 on high, pull off to eight on the high, 12 pull off to nine back to 12. eight, 12 on the high, then we back up to D major again but which is playing 17 pull off to 14 on the high 15 and then 14 on the G, the bend on the 15 on the B string. All the arpeggios together should sound like this.
Okay just remember on that last arpeggio, you do actually get a back up again. Finish them on the 14 and let it bend. So here is up to speed.
Okay so that is it for today’s tutorial. Thanks for watching and until next time, keep strumming.
