Welcome to another tutorial from me, the Living Force. Today’s song that we are going to do is the “Song Cry” by Jay Z produced by Just Blaze of the Blueprint album. It simply sounds like a love song by Bobby Brown for those who are interested where the origin comes from. It is in the key of B, Em, and in Gm and that is it. So let us get started. So I will play a few bars of it and then I will be showing what I am doing.
I know I played that a little bit fast but that is how it sounds at regular speed. So let us break it down. So the first one that you are going to play is the E flat major 7, so those out there who does not have to know with this chord will know about it with this tutorial. So first course of the base hand is this E flat, E, G, E flat, G, E flat, then your F major comes next, F, A, C, and then the G minor, G, E flat, D. I suggest you write it down if you want to know these chords by heart. So now we are going to go to the melodic section which is the right hand. So the first course you are going to play is G minor here, G, B flat, D, and then the second course is going to be an inverted E flat major, then down to the F major. So the trick with this part is—this inverted E flat is just a pick of B. It is just a temporary B to get you all to the F major.
Or if you are not comfortable in hitting that entire chord, you can just hit the E flat right here, you know, we can do it either way. This song has a lot of openness to it where we can make a variation to every crazy play with this, so it is pretty simple song—then the walking down section that you hear.
So the walking down part which is C, E flat, A, G, let us just count to five, one, two, three, four, five and then six out if, you just want to hold those B slow to make it on a count. And then the walk up is just G, A, B flat, G, A, E flat, C, D. But when you get more comfortable and more advanced you had that G minor then back to the beginning. So to drag it out a little bit more, you can still it down the walk down section, then that D comes in. So that is pretty much good for the melodic section, it is pretty simple repeats.
So now we are going to add on the left hand. So watch carefully. So what I am doing with the left hand is just rotating and appreciating these chords to make it sound real smooth. So you can play around with that and make it sound how you want. Now I am going to slow down a little bit. That is the basic of basic versions that I just played for you. The last 30 seconds or so is just basic root positions or basic positions of the chords, the fancy version. If you are more advance then you can do it, no problem, but if you are a beginner, just play the roots. Sorry, bad joke. Play the right little positions of the chords and it will sound just as good. Now I will just play at a regular speed.
So I turn it in the song on G minor and I saw I ended it in the video that I did already on the actual piano. So now you should know enough to do the variations that I showed. Remember just rotate the chords that I thought you. Thank you and enjoy the song.
