Shalom, how do you play Dreidel, well here is the Dreidel. It is a game. Actually a small gambling game, it is played with a lot of fun on Hanukkah
You see there are four letters and they stand for in the Diaspora outside of Israel. The fist is nun that stands for Nes, miracle, Gimel, Gadol, great, Haya, was, shin, sham. A great miracle happen there, which is the key idea of Hanukkah.
Now in Israel there shin is replaced with a Pay letter which stands Po here. Now what you do is you spin it like a top. And then if whatever letter it lands on, let us say it lands. You put first some stuff in the middle. You can play with pennies or nickels or you can play with candy, whatever you want. If it lands on Gimel, whoever gets the Gimel that lands face up gets the whole pot. If it lands on nun, that stands for nothing. Nothing happens. The Geshin and you have to put one in. and if you get a Haya. You get half the pot, so you simply spin it and you play a little gambling game and you learn the lesson of Nes Gadol Haya Sham.
So again the letters, Nun, Nes, Gimel, Gadol, Hey, Haya, Sham, Shi, and again very simple, if you spin and you get Gimel. You would everything in the pot. Hay, you get half in the pot. Shin, you put in and Nun, nothing happens.
So that is simply how you play the game, so, sitting with the Holiday of Hanukkah. You can get all kinds of size Dreidels. They come in much smaller size and big sizes. You can play with anything you want. It is just a fun little game, Dreidel.
