Here are some exercises that will help you to open and close the high hat while playing the cowbell pedal with your heel.
I will start by playing eighth notes on the high hat and then opening on the end of one, as well as the end of three. (Demonstration)
On this example, I will play the cowbell on beat one, as well as beat three. (Demonstration)
On this example, I will play the cowbell on the E of one, as well as the E of three. (Demonstration)
On this example, I will play the cowbell on the end of beat one, as well as the end of beat three. (Demonstration)
And finally, I will play the cowbell on the A of beat one, as well as beat three. (Demonstration)
Throughout this DVD, I have kept my heel on the cowbell pedal while my toes remain on the high hat pedal. What we are going to do now is just put our whole foot on this pedal and play some traditional cowbell rhythms. I will start off by playing just a cleave part and then I will incorporate a drum set part on top of it. (Demonstration)
