Now, I would like to move into, again, practicing the four parts of your body, both hands and both feet. That is what I like to call “playing on the end”. Again, it is just that it gives you more of an exercise with your feet and playing and giving a little different sound with the beat. And, remember the one beat that I played earlier where I just clapped that hi hat on beats one, two, three, four and have it open in hi hat sound? Well, it is similar to that except for playing, one and two and three and four. And with the hand, all that we are going to do is play it on both hands. So, it is one and two and three and four and one and two and three and four and… So, the stick is just hitting on the hat on the “and” while you are clicking one, two, three, four with your feet.
And again, the bass drums on one and three and the snares on two and four. So let us hear what that sounds like if we throw it all together.

It is something like that. Remember, it is just playing on the “and” of the beat. You are hitting a simple pattern on the “and”.
All right. As we have been grooving together so far on the video, I have introduced the 8th note and the 16th note pattern on the hi hat on the right. Now, I would like to show you using just a quarter note pattern on the high hat. It is usually when I play it, I kick the tempo a little bit more and I would like to also lead the hi hat symbol open a little bit. Like at the last few times, we have been playing with the 8th note and 16th note pattern that I have kept closed. Now, I would like to keep it open and give it a little sizzle effect. [demonstration] something like that.
Again, we are going to keep it simple and just have the bass drum on beats one and three and the snare on beats two and four. Now what I will do is that I will play the pattern through for you a number of measures, and then what I will do just to mix it up a little bit to show you more of what you can do with the bass drum on this particular beat. So here we go. Let us start it off, like I said, pick the tempo up a bit.
