Hello again, I have received a number of request from people specifically with regards to chording—how to build chords? What is the difference between a major chord and a minor chord? And what is an easy way to play them?
So I thought I better show you, we will start off with our C note again, just to the left of the two black keys. That is what I call it in the piano. Each chord is going to fall the same pattern, so if you are ever stuck as to how to make a chord starting from here count up four notes. That is going to be the second note of your chord then for your third note count up to three, so there is your C chord.
Okay, so take one of your C chord, go up by four—that is your second note and you want to do the next note to it, you go up by three and there is your C chord. So if you have managed to learn where each of these notes are which is C, D, E, F, G, starts over A, B, C. By following that up four and up three you can literally make any chord that, you will need to play in a song. And those are your major chords.
To make it a minor chord, sometimes you will see like a C with a little “m” beside it that means it is a C minor chord and all you do is take your middle finger, move down half a note. So you are going to go from here down to there, so there is your C, there is your C minor.
Okay, now let us try it with a D, so next start up is your D. Let us count up by four, that is your second note. My finger is all the way here and then your third part of the note in the chord were up by three. There is your D chord. Now to make that a minor, we will drop our middle finger down half a tone.
Okay, here is your D, move that down that is your D minor. We will try it now with the E, that is your E note, we go up by four, that must be my second note and then to make the third note we go up by three. Well when you know it there is your E chord, to make it a minor drop your middle finger. Okay, we will do one more here we will do the F, there is your F, so we count up by four, and to make our last note count up by three and there you have your F chord. To make it a minor drop your middle finger down one and so that is your F minor.
Okay, so just practice those, your major chord, your minor chord in C, in D you got your major chord, your minor chord and you can also try them with your right hand too, it is the same thing up here too. And here is your C chord make it a minor and you can literally do that for any of the chords in the key of C so try that, practice and have some fun with it.
