Okay we are going to look at our section now that I call first finger bending. The reason I have been teaching about this so far is because it is very difficult to do. And if you choose not to do it or it takes you a long time to get it down, at least you can sound a beat like BB and add some licks to your playing by the stuff we have done so far. So I purposely left this so that you can have some nice BB stuff to play without this thing messing out for you. Because believe me, when I started working on this style, as soon as you try and incorporate this technique, it will get a little bit difficult. But you know, you can get it down but it is something that not a lot of those that requires some attention to achieve.
Now, first thing to bending is basically what I am saying. You are taking your first finger and you are bending up. That is part of the reason that I am using a strap with the fluid rows. Some of the blues periods, you might be wondering why I am doing that but the reason is your fluid rows make the string tension a little bit easier. I can put some live strings in it because believe me, I am using a set of nines and this is still difficult. It is getting easy now but my finger really hurt for a few times when I first started doing this. So what we are doing is we are taking that first finger and I am just going to give you some of the real common ways that this is used. We are pushing that 11 high up to 13 high. One of the real combinations on this high is to bend that 11 at a whole step but also to bend it and up a whole step like that. If you think about this lick, if we move down, this is normally where it will be played by most guitar players. The BB comes in play here. By the nature of the BB box, it kind of gets different sound but it does do down here as well which we will get into in a bit. So here we go with this bend. Now, another really common play that it does this is done in the second pentatonic position. If we are playing in B flat and we have this pentatonic position, which I am sure you know we came up and we play in position too. I think most of us have played blues. We are kind of maundering around here and then a sample will move up here. So that is really plan of nine high E to 11 B. Now what BB King will do is it will start to push or bend this nine up a whole step same as we did up here. We do a slight blues bend. It comes with the rest here with that bar we talked about earlier.
Okay, so what I want to do is do another demonstration. We are going to use the licks that we have done so far and then what I would like us to start is try and incorporate this bending. But you are going to find it difficult at first. I probably consider myself to be so that above average guitar player and it took me probably three or four days just to get over the pain and then it was probably two or three weeks before it really started to sound like anything. So do not be worried if you struggle with it because it is hard to do. But if you keep working on it, it will come and then if you add that to the stuff we have done so far, you are really going to start to get this kind of BB King picture coming together. So I will do a little demonstration. I am going to use the stuff that we have done already and I am going to add this into the mix of things and see what happens.
Okay, so I just incorporated those things into the stuff that we have done before. And now, we are starting to hopefully build that BB King star with the bending, the BB brass and now the bending. One bend that I did in there which happens quite a lot. You probably noticed I did this leak. That sounds symbolism because I do not tone to get that and what is happening in there is you are playing like 12 G to 11 B and then you are pushing this 13 B up a whole step and then you are doing this. So, you plan the first note pushing from that 11 up to a whole step to 12 and you cannot really hear the bend. The idea is that you do not hear the bend and then you do a quick bend up a whole step. So it
