Hi I’m Mike Pedersen with PerformBetterGolf.com. Today I want to talk about a very
common swing fault that happens to most golfers while in the golf course. It’s called
coming out of your posture at some point during your golf swing. So what happens is if
you’re in your golf posture and you make a swing you will be able to be coming out of it
on a back swing or coming of it on the farther which causes major swing faults and bad
miss hits.
So what we want to do is get the limitation that’s causing that, that limitation is weak and
strength. Let’s look at this. When I’m in my golf posture, my hamstrings—when most
important muscles contracting at that point, if I reach back and touch them they’re real
tight. If they’re weak there’s no way I’m going to be able to stand my golf posture
throughout the golf. My brain is going to say I can’t hold and I want to bail out of it. So
we need to strengthen these muscles to stay in our golf posture for 18 holes.
So I’m going to grab a pair of dumb bells and when you want the weight to be is 5 lbs. 8
lbs, maybe 10 lbs. and if you’re real thin you can go as high as 20 or 25. We’re going to
get in our golf posture and I’m going to do is bend at the waist work my hamstrings. I’m
just going to go down and up the 15 repetitions that I’m working on is bending at the
waist keeping my upper body real straight. My posture is real straight and my knees are
bending any more, they got to flex but that flex stays the same.
I’m going to focus on this hamstring and lower back for 15 repetitions. This is a fantastic
exercise that is specific to working your golf posture muscles. Once you do 15 repetitions
take a little break 30 seconds maybe, 15 seconds and do a second and third set. You do
this exercise 2 or 3 times a week and you will be able to stay in your golf posture all day
long. Give it a try!
