Fundamental #3 The Two Cheek Position

The third thing that all good players do with no exception, once the golfer gets to the top
of his back swing it doesn’t matter who the golfer is, whether it’s an upright plane, a flat
plane, on plane, cut risk like Freddy Couples, convex wrist like Trevino, flat wrist like
Nicklaus, flying elbows, tight elbows wherever they are here once the body unwinds all
of them will come down in the impact and arrive down here into what we call a two
cheek position. In other words at ball strike we want to be able to see cheek one and
cheek two of the fanny. Left shoulder a little bit to the left and the weight off of the right
side.
They’re all in that position with no exception. All of them are there and I would say the
vast majority of high handicappers look something like this. No cheeks, no weight
transfer, it’s almost like they return to the addressed position instead of being cleared and
out of the way. From this point in the follow through the club will disappear from the
camera. We always want to see that club right up here under the left shoulder. We never
want to see the club right up here, up high this way. If we see the club right up here, up
high this way we know that the club, the body didn’t rotate so if the body shifts it will
rotate and when it rotates they’ll finis a round to the left and then they finish all the way
around into a position we know call the Steve Martin look.
And if your remember the now after former comedian Steve Martin used to walk out on
Saturday Night live with an arrow through his head the old comic gags. We like to see
this position in all of our players around over here somewhere and most of these players
out in a Tour right now are so flexible because they work out. They all finish not just the
Steve Martin look but most of them can finish with their shaft going down the target line
that way.
