Drill # 5: Free Throw Putting Drill
Next drill that we are going to show you is called the free throw putting drill and what this develops is great consistency and a lot of confidence. Kent is going to start out with three balls at the free throw line there and he is going to make all three putts before he can move back to the next free throw line. So, Kent why not go ahead and work on your potting.
Notice how Kent keeps on his short putts. His putter face is very square. It takes the putter straight back, straight through down the target line, nice smooth stroke that Kent has. No risk in it, stroke starts from the shoulders.
Oh! He just, just made that! You get to move back but you know what? That counts as much as any free throw. Now, we have moved back a couple more feet. Little right to left brake here, good putt right there. Kent has now made eight in a row, going for nine. Oh, 8 ½. Now, unfortunately, Kent is going to start all over.
Now, this is a great drill. He is going to go back from the beginning but I cannot tell you how much confidence this will build up in your putting stroke. Being a great putter is repetition after repetition, after repetition. Doing the same thing over and over, and over again until it becomes automatic.
