Fundamental #1: Proper Grip.
(Music Playing)
In a good putting grip, we always want to have the palms facing each other. And if you look at the grip on a putter, it is different than we have on our other clubs.
Are other clubs we have a Round Grip.
We have a flat part of the surface here on top of the grip and that is so that our thumb’s can be place right down the center of the shaft, which gives more stability to the grip.
What we are looking at here,
Is a thumb running right down the center of the shaft with the back of the left wrist pointing out toward our target area. And as we place the right hand on the putter, both palms will be facing each other with my right thumb once again, down the center of the shaft or the center of the grip.
Now we use a little different position here on the back of the putter than we would with our regular grip.
In the regular grip in golf, our little finger would be over lapping between index fingers. But in our reverse grip for putting, we take our index finger on our left hand and put it over across the fingers on the right hand.
Now, what this does is give us more stability in the wrist because us we are going to learn here, our putting motion wants to have very little wrist action to it very, little arm action.
We are going to be putting and using the club like a pendulum but it all goes back that you find a comfortable grip.
With the thumbs down shaft, the palms facing each other, and the index finger of the left hand over the fingers on the right hand. So, we are going to be using a reverse grip.
Putting Pointers for Grip:
1. Thumb should be place down the center of the shaft.
2. Palm should be facing each other.
3. For right handed players, the index finger of the left hand should be on top of the little finger of the right hand.
