Male 1: We are at the beautiful Red Hawk Golf Club and the 18th hole is probably as tough as you will find anywhere in the country. But let us take a look at this, looking backwards and what the architect was going to do with this.
Male 2: Yes that is right Tim, I think if we will take a look back down this fairway and try to undo with the architect did, because there are a lot of deceptions build into this hole. For instance, this area where we are standing right here would be the ideal landing spot for the third shot. We have an area that is 45 yards wide and a 105 yards or 10 yards long. Anywhere in this area would be fine to land that second shot.
Male 1: But from back there, it looks like you have no landing area at all.
Male 2: That is right, you see this bunker up her on the right does not really come in to play, but from the fairway, it looks like it comes into play. So we can simplify this whole process if we kind of look at it backwards and then we will go back and play the hole from there.
Male 1: So we want to setup actually on a hole like this. If you are just trying to put your second shot in good position so that you have a little good shot, either a little wedge or a little to the green with hopes of getting on in three and two potting for five or actually one potting in making a bird. But if you stand back on that tee and looked from the tee area. It looks like an impossible hole.
Male 2: That is right. I think we will find as we get back there that are more conservative approach to this hole is the best way. We will probably take something less than a driver of the tee, because the landing area is so narrow and we will have simple fairway iron, a mid iron into this landing area and a very short iron or wedge into the green which would make very easy part.
Male 1: This is the landing area off the tee. And actually, right in here we got a pretty big wide landing area. But as we get further down, if we took a driver and hit off here and cut the roll, many times we would end up in the creek over there, because it is so narrow down there, if you get down to only about 15 to 20 yards wide.
Male 2: Yes, that is right. Even if you get down there, now have a down hill over water if you were trying to reach into the percentages above zero on that shot.
Male 1: Well, you got about 220 from the bottom of the base there all carry to the green so it does not make much sense to actually hit a driver off this tee because it is not going to put you in any better position.
Male 2: When we get back up to the tee box there, we want to select the club that put it right in this landing area, because from right here, it is nice and flat and we can name down the center of that fairway and pick a club, a mid iron that will give us a nice comfortable shot and from there, we can get on the green and make our par.
Male 1: It is a hole that your first couple of shots, you want to play pretty conservative and pretty safe. Just set yourself up for your third shot so you can knock it in tight and have a chance for a birdie.
