Alright, let us use some of the techniques I have talked about here In a tune, this is a sort of a revamp of a tune called Canon in D that you probably hear it play in a zillion weddings on TV commercials. I have moved it to the key of C to make it a little more guitar friendly. So, we are going to call it the Canon in C and a couple of things about this tune.
First of all, this is going to introduce us to the F chord using your thumb and this is something that you are going to have to learn in finger picking a guitar. It is played like this where you play 3rd finger, 2nd finger and 1st finger
(Music Demo)
just like you do in a regular F chord. Then, you are going to bring your thumb up and play the root note of the chord like this. The reason that you are doing this
(Music Demo)
Is because now your thumb can get a nice heavy bass calling and you can
(Music Demo)
Your fingers can move and do melodic stuff.
Alright so, what we are going to do here is that we are going to take a very simple chord progression. We are going to begin by playing the chords then we are going to add a secondary note with our thumb the next time through. The third time through the progression, you are going to add alternating bass with your thumb and then we are going to add some melodic stuff on that and then finally end up with the basic chords again. So, let us take this very simple and very beautiful chord progression and see where we can go with it.
