Let us take a closer look at a couple of things. The first part very simple, we will just using our thumb and our index and middle fingers to play the components of the chord.
(Music Demo)
Once again, remember, I am in G with the B on the bass, use your 2nd and 4th fingers and you are going to see why later on. Then, as we move in to the second part of the tune, we are grabbing the chord notes again but now we are adding an extra melody note to build on things.
(Music Demo)
The next time through the chord progression, now, our thumb is doing all of the movement and we are doing a single note on top like this.
(Music Demo)
Then, the next time through, we start again on the C. Now, we are going to add a secondary melody like this.
(Music Demo)
You let them study.
(Music Demo)
Also, notice that for most of the G’s in this tune, I am using my 3rd finger in the root. That is another thing that you are going to be doing a lot in the fingers than on the guitar because that facilitates you being able to
(Music Demo)
Play melodies while you are keeping this root note in the bass. Okay, let us take up again here at the beginning of the progression. Now, we are going to add a little more complex melody.
(Music Demo)
Now, we are going to switch the melody up. Same basic idea
(Music Demo)
You are going to give a little more here.
(Music Demo)
You now see how that F is coming in handy now using your thumb in the root? You can do all those little melodies and keep a nice steady base using your thumb.
Now, leading back in to the basic chords, we are going to do this run.
(Music Demo)
This is an interesting run. This is based on a classical run where you got thirds. You got a harmony using thirds. You start using your third finger here.
(Music Demo)
First finger and here
(Music Demo)
Is why I mentioned that you should use your 2nd and 4th fingers to do the G with the B in the root because they fall right in here thus making it easy to get that
(Music Demo)
And you move back into the basic chords. At the very end of the tune, you are going to do a Gsus once again using your 3rd finger on the III fret of the 6th string like this
(Music Demo)
And back to C.
