First thing I want talk about is our fingers. We have of course our thumb, our pointing finger is what we call the first finger, our middle finger is the second finger, our ring finger is the third finger, and our pinky is the fourth finger, so, we have first, second, third, fourth. Now to hold the pick properly, you want about 20% of the pick showing. You want to placed it between your thumb and your first finger at a angle, rest your arm naturally on the guitar, so when you (Music Playing), basically your hand should fall in between the pick ups and when you are ready to strum, it should be in a natural, comfortable feeling, okay?
Let us go ahead and start by tuning the guitar and there is six strings on the guitar, the top string is actually the six string which is the low E. hen we have the fifth string which is A, the fourth string, D, third string, G, second string, B, and the first string is the high E. Now we will begin tuning with the low E, the sixth string (Music Playing) and the third string G (Music Playing).
Now for beginners I highly recommend purchasing an electric guitar tuner, plugs in 9 bullet battery usually and you can take that, put it in your guitar case and tune up at a matter of minutes when you are ready to jam with your friends.
Now, let us move on to lesson one.
