Now we are going to look at the Minor Pentatonic scale. Again, using five notes, starting with the A this time. It will be our root note. Let us take a close look at this.
The Minor pentatonic pattern is a little different than the Major pattern. We are going to do this in the key of A. A is our root note, which is on the fifth fret of the sixth string. So here is our A, where we will go up three frets to C. We are going to go to our fifth string, which is D, up a whole step, two frats to E. We are going to go to our fourth string, fifth fret which is G, and then we are going to go to A. There is our octave. (Demonstration)
To find the second half of this, start with A, fourth string seventh fret. We are going to go up to the third string fifth fret, which is C, up a whole step to D, up to the second string fifth fret, which is E. (Demonstration) This time we are going to the eighth fret second string, which is G. Here is our A, fifth fret first string, and we will finish it off with another C. That completes the pattern. (Demonstration)
