The last thing that I am going to teach you in this video, are power chords. Power chords are the easiest chords to play. They make up the foundation of Blues and Rock songs, almost the entire foundation of Blues and Rock songs.
A Power chord is actually made up of two notes. We have our first and fifth. If you buy music books, you might see it referenced as a 5th chord. For instance, like E5, A5, D5, those are all power chords.
I am going to start out with open power chords. Let us look at our open E. We are going to play it on the low E. We are going to play the second fret of our 5th string. This is the power chord E. (Demonstration) Let us look at A. We are going to use our open A. We will put our first finger on the second fret of the fourth string. (Demonstration) I will show D. We are going to use D, the fourth string open and then we will put our first finger on the second fret of the third string. (Demonstration)
Now, I would also like to show you power chords up along the fret board here. For instance, we have A. We are going to use our first finger on the fifth fret of the 6th string, which is our A. That is our root note. And then, we are going to put our third finger on the 7th fret of the 5th string. (Demonstration)
Let us go up to D. We are going put first finger on D, fifth fret of the 5th string, our third finger on the seventh fret of the 4th string. Here is D. (Demonstration)
Let us move up a whole step to E. (Demonstration) Just like bar chords, power chords are movable. (Demonstration)
