Pick style guitar and finger style guitar playing the same chord, look at my fingers. If it sounds higher, it sounds more focused.
Where we are going to get into in this DVD is, first of all, playing chords with your thumb, your index and your middle finger. We are also going to cover doing songs where your thumb is keeping 4/4 time like this. Let us take a simple blues and we got [music playing]
So, you almost have the illusion of having two guitars there. Your thumb is basically playing a rhythm for you. We are also going to get into pattern picking where in this case, Travis picking which is named for Merle Travis, the late great guitar player that inspired Chet Atkins and a bunch of other wonderful musicians. Travis picking is where you are keeping time with your thumb once again but you are doing it on alternating strings like this. [demonstration]. You are going to use your fingers to syncopate against that like this. [demonstration]. You get into all kinds of style in doing that, rag time picking. [demonstration]
