This exercise will do a couple of things. One, it will make sure that you have the dexterity to move your fingers around so when we get in the chord, you can move and switch chords easily. Two, you also want to make sure that you are applying pressure on the string straight up and down to your finger. You do not want your finger to touch the strings down below because those will mute those strings if you touch it at the A that will be good. If you are in the sound like that. When you are playing chords, you definitely want to have the entire strings ring. So this practice exercise is very critical for your first step.
Now what I want you to do is follow a longer, we are going through all six strings. Again series of half steps, we are going to start on the low E. I am moving too fast to stop and practice and come back when you are ready. When you go to A the fifth string, we then go to fourth string D, third string G, second string B, first string the high E, just have a little bit of fun. Go anywhere what ever string you want to see I get to use plucking the different strings and individually we went up and down between strings.
Also when you are practicing this there is a picking technique. You can go down stoke which is the strumming, down towards the floor or you can do an up down stroke which is up and down up stroke would be going up down stroke is down so you can do the up down. It is another great thing to practice just going between the strings.
Now that we built up some strength in our fingers, have a little bit of dexterity, we can move him around or little lessens that. Let us take our first locate chords. We are going to start with open chords and each chord is named after its root note. So the E chord, the root note is E. Now I am going to show you seven chords and the three most popular variations of each chord Major, minor and sevenths.
