How to Play Guitar to Rehab by Amy Winehouse
Alright Kitty cats here we go today we’re going to learn Rehab by Amy Winehouse. A
really cool song without a K pump so we can just play it open and we got some basic
open chords 2 bar chords so we’re going to break this down and you see I’m looking on
my chart here we’re going to break this down into the actual chords and we’re going to
break it into. We’re talking about the construction of the song and we also talking about
some right hand technique on how you should think about the beat and that sort of thing
so here we go.
So the chords well actually here I’m going to play through this first and we’ll talk about
each section so the verse is going to start off like this and I’m just going to do it my own
strum but just take a listen and we’ll talk about the quiz. Just starting on a C…
[Demonstration]
Okay so let’s stop there so chords for this, 10, 4 so it’s like…1, 2, 3, 4 so the chords for
the verse are C, F. I’m sorry C, G, F, C, F, C okay. So you don’t know how to play a bar
chord or just play to a bar chord you just play your F like that bring somewhere around
and mute that low 6th strings and lay your hand down like this so you’re borrowing these
1 and 2 here. If you don’t know how to play these chords check out your Guitar
Sage.com check out the eBook there.
Okay let’s talk about, we’ll talk about rhythm in a minute but the chorus is going to go
something like this…
[Demonstration]
Am, F, Am, again Am, Am, F, Am, G again G, F, for four measures, there we go there’s
the verse and chorus and that is the entire songs as far as the chorus as far as everything
really it’s just verse and chorus which is entire song so if you can learn this two parts you
got a cool song so let’s talk about chords in the chorus. We got a basic Em, basic Am. We
got an F again.
Now if you can play this you can play an AbM. Okay, you can just slant it up and that so
quick little theory lesson here you can play an F chord. This is an F and any place you
slide this it’s a new major chord so here’s an F, F#, G, G# also known as Ab and I play
my major form there like this and the bring back from around there and I play so the
chorus is going to be like.
[Demonstration]
Am, F, Ab, again repeat Am, F, Ab, G, F okays so that’s chorus there. Really what I’m
doing rhythm wise you can do a couple things since there’s no guitar and this is really for
the most part even though that guy is just jamming away in the background looking real
cool. No guitar— so I kind of condensed this from the piano base and everything else so
what I’m doing rhythmically here is I’m doing like making the songs that I’m showing
you here the rhythm that’s just pretty standard rock type feel so you could do…
[Demonstration]
So let me slow down it’s going to go 1, 2, 3, 4….
[Demonstration]
So we want that part of the video. We need to, to get that rhythm down 1, 2, 3, 4,….
[Demonstration]
Okay, the other thing I’m doing is like a— or like a rake and so what I’m doing for like
this, the chorus, I’m doing like a…
[Demonstration]
Just kind of like a little Spanish feel or pasodoble type…
[Demonstration]
Okay so basically what you’re doing is you’re just extending the strums instead of just
doing like a…
[Demonstration]
You’re just going…
[Demonstration]
Then of course what I’m doing again here is taking this fleshy part of my palm and
landing it on the bridge and as I’m doing this pick down I kind of do it, I kind of lay in
my hand I mean instead of going…
[Demonstration]
Which you could do that…
[Demonstration]
And the other things I’m doing is muting between those strums so I’m going to do it slow
here for you. Okay and the other ways to actually mute here going.
[Demonstration]
So I’m going to play it something like…
[Demonstration]
Okay so that’s it guys some basic chords and some basic strumming. If you have any
questions on anything that you see here today or any of the other videos then well if you
