Today, since we are going to be doing “Hey Lover,” by LL Cool J and Boyz II Men, four chords in left hand and a small running in the right hand. It is not too difficult and I will show you right now, first chord, C, D, E, G, again, C, D, E, G.
Second chord C, E, F, Ab, so C, Eb, F, Ab, well that is going to be used twice when I add the right hand you are going to stand on the top of it all. So, and then again a C chord, C minor chord and then back up to E, F, A. Now this should sound familiar at this point if you are familiar with the song, and if you are not that is okay, so that is the basic rhythm that you want to have down in the base hands.
A little kick up down I am doing in the second chord that is just a hand. So okay, now you shift those to the right hand not too difficult, here we go, C, G, C, G, Ab, C, again. In the song the voice it makes it hard to kind of sink up on the voice and then do a little hook. It is really pretty. So this is what the right hand basically symbolizes, so again I will show you and then when we sink it together it will sound pretty close to the recording. So again I am going to show you.
So then I will call this C, G, A, Cb, C, Eb, D, Bb, G. So now we are going to go, it is going to be lowering the base because even re-crossing hands that would not be any good. We are crossing voices who needed the term so that would not be—too bad I missed the professor who would probably kill me if I slowed down on that part. Okay, so now we are going to add both hands together and watch slowly and carefully while I do it. So think of it in this term, the C and the G on the first chords okay.
So the first chord C and G, and then Ab and C come with the second chord. One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, I know it is kind of with an F or E but, and this is kind of like a pick up note right here, C chord and the final chord which is a D chord. C, G, B, C, C, E, D, E, G, okay. So you can finish anyway you want.
Well that is the basic just so this song, this song with piece is highly like that so you can add a little variations on it an make it sound different when you are playing on in front of people or for your friends or for who matter that is what you want to do. Try to make every phrase sound different in the last, I know we are kind of playing a little robotic but I just want to play it legit.
The chords down and then you can add one to it, so since we do have a few minutes left I will just go over the patterns again so you can get it down and get this song done.
Okay, so again. And what I like to do is for a song that is really nice you can add—make it sound really sweet, really nice by adding some strings into it if you are in keyboards. So you can switch up if you have a keyboard but if you have a piano have fun with it, do not kill your bass too much and just keep it smooth as it can be. That is it for this tutorial, there will be more coming up in this summer. The theme is love, so we will see what happens, thank you and have a good day.
