Hi again! There goes another tutorial about a song that has been asked many times and that would be Highway to Hell. So, let us get in to the song right away. The song is played in the key of A and it goes something like this.
So, as you can see the first chord that I do actually after the A chord where I go up and down with the strumming, I have seen him do this live so I suppose this is how he did on the record as well on the original recording as well. It does not sound too bad. And right after the A chord, I will go like this so I will playing basically a D chord with the F# base plate with muting the A string. This is muted and then it is just G open chord with the A string.
After this, I seemed to hear this kind of pattern. It is very important, the timing and the way you strum the song with because either you do it right or it is simply not going to come out right as usual. So, what I do with this little pattern, I play the D chord and then I add right after the F# base string like that and we will go to the G like I did it before. The first chords that I am striking are D chord, open D chord, simple D chord not played as a whole. I am not playing this one not even getting down there just playing that.
And then, I will add the F sharp and make sure you make this base notes heard in the chord pattern like that. So, the whole pattern at this point will go like that. This pattern here I think is repeated for over verses. So, the first timing you do this thing, it seems to me that after the A chord, you will always go with this kind of D played with the F# base like this and then it will start for the rest of the verse like that. We get to the chorus part and so let us prepare for the chorus with the pattern. Both of them seem to go with this kind of like that which is something that prepares for the explosion of the E string so again, like that.
A, G, D, E, D, A, back to the verse and now from the chorus part, I think it is from the second chorus, we are just about ready to launch the solo. So, we start on the chorus and there goes the solo right there on the solo. So, let see the solo as the chords for that special part. It is just simple D and G chords. Let us see the solo now. It starts right here. This is what I hear and sometimes I seem to hear something like this so much that my first version of this solo actually I did it this way. But if you listen to the record, it seems to go like this, even live I think it does go like this. But since I am not sure 100% about this, we played them both and it is up to you to decide exactly what it does. I think maybe sometimes, maybe the first part it does – and then it starts going with the full movement here, which is another classical blues rock and roll thing and then something like that.
So, let us do it again. There it goes! There is goes until the end where there is chord that goes like this and end in the final explosion of the song, closing A. Here it goes. I am on the Highway to Hell and then it ends like that. So, I hope you grabbed those one as well. Thanks for watching.
