Here is a really cool idea that I learned from listening to Jimmy Hendricks. This is how I play it.
[Demonstration]
So, this slick here is in the key of E. So, I am bending up the D note.
[Demonstration]
From the XV fret from the D string up to E then full step above.
[Demonstration]
And here is the tricky part. This is where I grab this note,
[Demonstration]
Which is then on the D string. Already bends up from the XIV fret there
[Demonstration]
Up to the note B.
[Demonstration]
So, when this note is up here at the note E.
[Demonstration]
I will start letting it go and on the way down, I grab this note which is up there and then let it go down.
[Demonstration]
So.
[Demonstration]
So, one goes up,
[Demonstration]
And this is when I exchange strings is then it goes down.
[Demonstration]
And then, I add at the end as if finish the lick.
[Demonstration]
This is just note to here full fret in the G string,
[Demonstration]
And the note E in the XIV fret in the D string. So,
[Demonstration]
Now, the trick that I find is to mute the string because you do not want to be
[Demonstration]
Something like that so, I use my left hand to do most of the muting.
[Demonstration]
At this point, this index finger is touching the B string and the E string below. So, you will see they would not ring.
[Demonstration]
And I was also touching the D string with the first finger up here.
[Demonstration]
So, I do not get strings ringing because that would not sound good. So, it takes a lot of practice to get it right then I often mess it up when I am playing live and so on. But what the heck, it was just rock and roll, right? It is fun.
[Demonstration]
And this is now where you fit to play it in the E.
[Demonstration]
You can do the same idea with just moving the whole thing down from here
[Demonstration]
Down to here on the XII fret starting point.
[Demonstration]
Another way to just make it sound good is the use of raking approach for the right hand.
[Demonstration]
I like it doing that but I do get a palm muting here and then I have raked from the D string up to this note. This is basically is going like this,
[Demonstration]
Just keep your left hand on top of the strings.
