Hi! Welcome to lessonswithtroy.com. Today’s lessons, we’re going to take the gospel tune just to close for walk with the—and I’m going to show it to you in the key of G that’s why I just played. And also I’m going to take this lesson and I’ve written out in the key of G and also in the key of C and to two octaves in the key of C, so one in the higher octave and one in the lower octave.
What I’m going to do is I’m going to go through and I show you in the key of G I’m also going to show you how to play in the key of C. So, basically how to take whatever phrase we’re working with, and how to move it from the key of G to the key of C. And what you can do is you can start doing that in other keys that you want to move to. And I would kind to show you and give you some pointers on how to think of songs in positions and think of playing the melody over whatever chord you’re playing over. And then that one you can move it in out of the different keys. Okay, let’s go and gets start.
Okay, if you have your tab, go and printed out instead of standing in front of you. The way that I’m going to do this, I’m going to show you small phrases, small phrase that in the certain position here. And what we’re going to do is we’re going to take these positional phrases and then I’ll show you how to play the exact same phrase in different key. Let’s say the key of C, the key of D, whatever key you’d want to play it in. And once you're able to take each phrase and find were to play in another position and understand work what key that is once you shift to that position. You should be able to play it in every key. Okay, the first phrase sounds like this. [Demonstration]
Once again, we’re starting off in the key of G here. And still we’ll triple stuff there on my sixth, fifth, and fourth string. The thumb index in the middle, and I do get to fourth string. So my 12 fret with my bar pulled back too I’m not worry about this higher strings there. I’m not going to hit those. [Demonstration]
Okay, and then the melody goes into14, here on the fourth string, 12 on my fifth string, 12 on my fourth string, 11 to 10. Let see in 14, 12 on my fifth string, 12 on my fourth, 11 on my fourth, 10 of my fourth. [Demonstration]
Okay, now what I’ve got is I’ve got a little muted thing going here with on my six strings instead of a little bit more rhythm, kind like a chicken, pigeon leg, you’re playing on guitar. [Demonstration]
Okay, that’s why it sounds like in rhythm. [Demonstration]
If you know the song that tab, those muted parts have the X, that the X sounds the six strings. That means to mute that string out. And how you do that is that is I just tilt my bar up to where whatever note I’m wanted to hit. I’m in sitting with the tip of my bar and then my finger is back here, ring and pinky. I’m muting now my six strings there. [Demonstration]
Okay, good. So, that’s the phrase. Now, that’s over a G chord here. This is on my 12 fret that’s the G chord. And say we want to move that same phrase to the key of C okay, all we do as if you know you chords on the instrument, you know that the fifth fret is the key of C. So, you take the exact same spacing the frets and everything we just played on the 12 fret and you’re going to play it here on your fifth fret. [Demonstration]
Alright, that is fifth frets, seventh, eighth, five, four, four. [Demonstration]
Now you play that in the key of C. [Demonstration]
Okay, now what you can do too is say that it might be a little bit too low. You want to play up on that. You get the cool thing with dobras that you’ve got these three strings that are G-B-D and the next three strings are G-B-D. So, you can take that at exacts same spacing that we just play starting here on our 12 fret for the key of G and we’re to here for the fifth fret for the key of C and we’re going to move it up. [Demonstration]
See that backwards, it’s the exact same spacing that we played here on the 12 fret and we’ll move here to fifth fret. [Demonstration] And then you can also shift that up in octave with the same key but now yourself an octave playing the exact same shape that we’ve played here, played here and that we’re going to play it of an octave. [Demonstration]
Okay, so that’s how you start moving phrases around in the different keys. Let’s go ahead and play that next phrase.
