(Music playing)
It works around that chord shape. Now, that can work to your advantage as we move up the neck. Here is an example. Here is position 2 which directly connects to position 1. I call it the D minor position. I do not mean to confuse you here but if you think about it for a second, if you take a D minor chord like this (Demonstration), you move it up a whole step, it becomes an E minor chord (Demonstration).
That is what I see when I go into position 2. Watch this; the root note is going to be an E (Demonstration). So, if your finger is a capo and you actually move here and put a D Minor chord here, it would be (Demonstration) like that. Keep that in your head as you are moving up.
Also, as far as the fingering, when I am practicing it, I use a finger for a fret. In this case, you have to use your 4th finger to do that but quite honestly, sometimes you are going to be switching and using this. (Demonstration)
Once again, in the heat of battle, sometimes you are just going to jump on that particular way of doing things which was 1st, 3rd (Demonstration) then I switched my 2nd finger here, which allows me to catch (Demonstration) that kind of thing where you start to do pull-offs and the fancy stuff.
