Hey there gang, Your Guitar Sage here. Today, we’re going to learn how to play the Love Song by The Cure. It’s a really simple tune in the open position, no need for a capo today and there’s two basic chord progressions. I’m looking at my chart here on my screen. For those of you that can just get what I’m doing, just stick around, you’ll learn this song in about a minute and a half. I won’t play the entire song through, however, I will play every chord progression. For those of you that need more help, stick around. For those of you that need this chart, go to yourguitarsage.com and you can purchase the eBook that’s there and you’ll also get to cruise all the charts that I put up for the tutorials here. For those of you that don’t want to do that, just write down the chords as I’m saying them. That eBook also helps you the strumming and all that good stuff too, so check it out.
Okay, so here we go. Here’s Love Song, it’s going to go something like this. It’s in A minor.
[Demonstration]
That’s the basic chord progression right there and we’ll talk about the strumming and all that in a minute here. So, that’s the intro, the verse, the turnaround. Now, the chorus is going to go.
[Demonstration]
And now back into the verse.
[Demonstration]
Okay, so let’s talk about that. Besides the strumming, here are the chords. So when you’re learning this tunes, it’s really important that you know when to change the chord. And so, I like to teach the tunes just strumming the chords on when the chord changes. So here on this chord chart I’m looking at, every four beats, we got to change so it’s like.
[Demonstration]
Okay, so once you did that, you get that feel then you can go.
[Demonstration]
Or whatever little.
[Demonstration]
You could do that too. So we’ll talk about that in a minute. So the chords are like this, intro, verse, turnaround, verse, solo, everything but the chorus is this chord progression, A minor, G, F, Em7 which could be played with this single finger, no finger down right there. Or you could play this high note here, it sounds a little nicer. I like that voice in there. And so together, and that’s the whole chord progression, so together it’s like.
[Demonstration]
And when you're strumming, it goes something like this.
[Demonstration]
Okay, the chorus is going to go F, G, A minor, C. You’re going to repeat that for a total of three times. So that, plus two more, [demonstration] F, G, A minor, C, F, G, A minor, C. And then you’re going to end the chorus with an F and then a G. So the chorus is going to go.
[Demonstration]
So you’re ending with this F and with this G, back into the regular chord progression.
[Demonstration]
Okay, again, this Em7 you could play like that or like this, or like this, all different ways, or like this. Okay, so strumming rhythm, this is what I do kids, I do just like half of the videos that we do here, this popular tunes have a very pretty simple chord progression that you’re trying to do or simple rhythm if you’re trying to break it down and it’s going something like this.
[Demonstration]
And that’s—if you’re counting, it’s [demonstration] one, mute, and, and four, and one, mute, and, and four, and. So on the two, I’m saying mute because I’m muting the strings. I’m doing the old karate chop right. [Demonstration] one, mute, and, and four, and—really important that you go [demonstration]. I think actually I was doing a one, and, mute, and, and four. So [demonstration].
Very important that you—that after that mute, you do an up strum and then you come back around, do another up strum for and four, and, you want your numbers to be down and you want your hands to be up. So [demonstration].
Okay kids, that’s it. And if you haven’t already hit subscribe, so that you can get these fancy pants videos in your email everyday because I’m putting a new one up everyday. If you haven’t already go and get the eBook. Go practice, eat your beans, eat fiber, drink juice, no coke. Okay, bye.
