Alright, another song for you guys. This one is by Taylor Swift. It’s called Love Story. I really enjoyed it. I heard it the other day. It’s a really good song. I really like, I mean the lyrics are ok but the thing I like the most about it is just kind of I guess the melody and how it was put together. It’s got a really cool sound to it, but alright you need to be in standard tuning with your guitar, and then you need to have a capo on the second fret. Ok, this is the way she plays it. I’m using my plasma guitar because I was trying to tune the string to play Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls for all of you who requested, and my string broke so thank you for whoever requested that song.
Alright, the four chords you’re going to need to sue are C… for the beginning part, C… G… A minor… and F… ok. Now the first part, “We were both young when I first saw you”, ok. The way that I play this is whenever I’m playing along with the song and trying to figure it out, I play it all down strums for the most part just like… so, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down… alright. So for the verse, you’re going to play C, “We were both young when I first saw you” is a C for eight beats… one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight… one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight… second chord is F… A minor… to an F again… that’s the first verse, ok.
The second verse, “See the lights. See the party, the ball gowns”, that starts out as C again… to F… to A minor… this is “little did I know”, it’s G… “That you were Romeo” is an F… “That you were Romeo” and “you were…” G, “throwing pebbles”… “And my daddy”, A minor, “said stay away from Juliet”, that’s C… “I was crying”, F, “on the staircase”… and then when it goes to the “Begging”, you play G… “Begging you please don't go”, A minor… and then “And I said”, back to C.
And then the chorus, “Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone. I'll be waiting”, that part is just C… to G… A minor… F… and that last line it says, F, “It's a love story”, it’s just one, two, three, four, “It's a love story, baby just say yes”. So F… to G… and finish it with C. I mean if you want you don’t have to play down strums on that part of the chorus. You could actually strum it like “Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone”, just like down, down, up, up, down, to C… down, down, up, up, down, down, down, up, up, down, switch to G, down, down, up, up, down, down, down, up, up, down… Playing down, down, up, up, down, up… to G… down, down, up, up, down, up, A minor, down, down, up, up, down, up, F, down, down, up, up, down, up, G… to C. That is the same for the verse. The tabs, it’s over here, check it out. It’s got the chords right above it. Sometimes when I was playing along with it, some of the chords, right above the words, are a little bit off. But you just want to think in your head. You want to kind of try and use this as you listen to the song whether it’s one, two, three, four… or whether in this song it’s… That’s still four measures. It’s just you’re strumming faster. See an eight strums instead of one, you have… like that. And the thing you want to realize is that the music is going to be the same amount of measure, so you know the first verse you go F to G, let’s see. First verse, you C to F to A minor to F and it’s the same amount of time. Like you don’t have six beats on C… and eight on F. It’s all the same, alright.
And then sometimes when you move down here, the chords are closer together over the lyrics. You can listen to the song and hear it if it’s like half beat, so instead of eight, instead of one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, you may be A minor, one, two, three, four, C, one, two, three, four. But you can listen to the song and look at the tab.
Basically you can see the rest of the chords. The only that’s different when I play it is after the solo, “I got tired of waiting”, I just strum it one time. So “I got tired of waiting”, A minor, let it a ring and then switch to F… strum it right before she says “Wondering if you” C, “Were ever coming”, G, “…around. My faith in you”, A minor, “…is fading. Then I met you on the outskirts”, C, “of town” G, “and I said”, and then you go back on the… because if you listen to her, singing it in the song, you hear it kind of really gets slow, so I just play… one strum… it’s kind of what she does too so, tabs are over here. Oh, at the very end, it says “He knelt down the ground”, it’s an F… “And pulled out a ring, and said”, and then it changes keys. So then the chords you’re going to use from there are, “Marry me Juliet” is a D… “You'll never have to be alone” to A… “I love you and that's all I really know”… then you go to B minor. B minor, just bar across the bottom five strings, ring finger here, third fret of your B string. I’m sorry middle finger, third fret of your B, and ring and pinky are on the D and G of your fourth fret. That’s a B minor… “I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress” and then you can see the chords the rest of the way out. The very last line just ends on a D chord… it just rings out.
Hope this helps. It’s not really a difficult song. It will help you because it kind of gets some quick chord transitions… but you guys will be fine. So, good luck. Enjoy it and take care.
