Hi guys, I'm going to teach you to play Mad World by Gary Jules and so I heard the song it’s a standard tuning so you don’t need change anything. And I’ll go ahead and play the intro through and show you guys how to do it.
[Demonstration]
Now, for this what you're going to do is you're going to start off with your ring finger on the knot for the B and your middle finger on the 8th fret of the highest string. You're going to play B and the high E.
[Demonstration]
And then you're going to move your middle finger from the 8th fret of the high E to the 8th fret of the B string. You're going to play that once then you put your ring finger back on the 9th fret of the B to play that one time.
[Demonstration]
Then you're going to go down and play B, 6th fret of the B with you pointer finger. Then from there and you just want to go straight back up to the 8th fret of the B into your middle finger then you want to go up a string and play the 8th fret and the 7th fret of the G string. After you play the 7th fret of the G you're going to play with your middle finger. You want to put you pointer finger on the 7th fret of the B and you're ring finger on the 8th fret of the D.
And what you're going to play at this party is you're going to play the D and then you're going to play the G and the B strings together.
[Demonstration]
And you're going to play that twice. So the entire first part of the intro sounds like this.
[Demonstration]
And then, the second part is pretty much like the same, pretty much the same as the first part just a little bit different ending. We’re going to play the 9th fret of the B, 8th fret of the high E.
[Demonstration]
8th fret of the E or 8th fret of the B, and then 9th fret of B.
[Demonstration]
Down to the 6th fret back up to the 8th fret then instead of going to the 8th and 7th fret of the G string you're going to play the 9th fret of the B to the 11th fret of the B.
[Demonstration]
And that’s the whole intro. Now, as far as the verse goes hear that and I'm sure you show you how to play.
[Demonstration]
That’s all the verse is and to play that you want to start of with your pinky on the 8th fret of the A string, your ring finger on the 7th fret of the D and your pointer finger on the 5th fret of the G string. And you're going to play the bass string and then you're going to play the two right under. So in this case you play the A and then you play the two under it and you'll do that twice so it’s—
[Demonstration]
From there what you're going to do is you're going to slide down one fret, you're going to take your pinky off and you're going to put your middle finger on the 5th fret of the G string and you're going to move your pointer finger down the string to the 4th fret of the B. So it’s—
[Demonstration]
You just play that. And then from there you're going to slide down a fret, one more fret and you're going to put your pointer finger or you're pinky finger on the 6th fret of the A string and you're going to lift off your middle finger and you're going to put you're pointer finger up one more string. So you're pinky should be on the 6th fret of the A, you're ring finger should be on the 5th fret of the D and your pointer finger should be on the 3rd fret of the G string. And you play the same thing.
[Demonstration]
From there what you're going to do is you're going to slide up three frets and you're going to take off your pinky, you're going to put your middle finger back down on the G string and you'll be on the 7th fret. Then you want to put your pointer finger on the – you're going to move it down a string and you're going to put on the 6th fret of the B. And then you're going to play the same pattern.
[Demonstration]
And that’s the entire verse. And as far as the out through it goes it’s pretty much the same as the intro just with the one little difference. So you're going to play that the original part of the intro, the—
[Demonstration]
You're going to play that but instead of going to the—I guess you called the picking path or the little four part you're just going to play from the 8th fret and the 7th fret of the G string which you're going to play the 8th fret of the D. And that’s the whole song, so it’s not hard, you know. You guys are really through it out. Hope it helps.
