In this next section, we are going to be looking at some pentatonic licks where we will be using legato technique and here is the first lick. Here we go.
This lick is going to be an E Minor Pentatonic Lick and it going to sound pretty much like this. It is usually a nice noise, but instead, we are going to do it in a different kind of way.
First off, we are going to play 12 to 15 on the low E. Then we are going to play 12, 14 and 17 on the A string. So together, we should have this. Then we just got to move up an octave. So we are going to have 14, 17 on a D. Then we are going to have 14, 16, 19 on a G. Then finish off, we are going to have 17, 20 on the B; 17, 19, 20 on the high E. So slow, it should look like this. Then coming down, we do exactly the same thing but just in the opposite direction. So together, slow, it should look like this.
Here is another legato pentatonic lick, which is going to sound so quite happy sounding over an E chord and it is going to look like this. Well, this next lick is going to start on the low E string; five hammer onto seven then move to A and play five hammer on to ten. Then we got seven hammer onto nine on a D. Then seven hammer on to 12 on a G. Pull-off to seven. Then nine pull-off to seven on a D. Re-hammer on nine then seven hammer on to 12 on G. We are going to have ten to 12 on a B. We are going to have ten to 15 on high E. We are going to tap 19. Pull-off to 15. Pull off to ten. Then 12 pull-off to ten, slide down to seven on a B. Then we are going to have 12. Pull-off to seven on a G. Nine pull off to seven on a D; slide down to five. Then we are going to have ten pull-off to five on the A. Then we are going to have seven. Pull-off to five on the low E and then finish with the seven on the A. So that how it looks. Slow, it should look like this.
Okay. Here is lick number 3. This is kind of more of back to the E Minor type of sound again. And we are going to play 11 to 12 on the low E string. Then ten to 14 on the A. Then we are going to have 13, 14 on a D. 12 to 16 on a G, back to 12. Then 14,13,14 on a D. 12, 16 on a G. 16, 17, on a B. 15, 19 on the high E then tap 24. Here is the ascending part, slow. Coming down, we are just going to come back pretty much down the way we came up, but there is a couple of slides in there. So, a 24 pull-off to 19, pull–off to 15 on the high E. 17 pull-off to 16 on the B then slide to 12. 16 pull-off to 12 on a G. And then 14, 13 on a D. Then slide down to ten on a D. 14 pull-off to ten on the A then 12, 11, 12 on the bottom E both ascending and descending together.
Now, we have come to the final lick and there is going to be quite a lot of stretching in this so I will just demonstrate for you and we will break it down. This is going to work pretty well in A Minor as well and we got three to five on the B string. Then we got three, five, seven the high E. Then we are just going to pull-off back down the same way. So together, it should look like this. Then we are going to slide it from three to five on the B. Then hammer on eight on the B. We are going to have five, seven and then ten. We are going to come back down. So far, we got this.
Okay then, we are going to slide from five up to ten on the B. Then hammer on 12 on the B. We got 10, 12, 15, 12, 10 on the high E and then 12 pull-off to ten the B. Then for the last position, we are going to slide from ten to 15 on the B. Hammer on 17 on the B. Then we are just going to finish up by playing 15, 17, 19 and then tap 24 on the high E. So that how it looks slow, it should look like this.
But unfortunately, we have come to the end of the DVD. Just as a quick recap, we have looked to the five positions of the minor pentatonic scale. We have looked to building speed in the left hand, alternate picking, economy picking, tapping and last of all legato. Now, take each of these licks and learn them slow. And when you get comfortable just speed them up and hopefully include them in your own playing. Also, there is a backing track provided along the DVD that you can try all these ideas at home. So, until next
