How to Play Pentatonic Scale Blues Guitar Riffs
Okay, now that I’ve played the solo for you. I’m gonna break it down into six separate licks, and we’ll dissect each licks separately so you can piece together the solo, so you could play the entire thing with the backing track included. So let’s go ahead and start with lick one, sounds like this. Okay, so that lick starts off with a slide, and actually on the, when I’m playing it I’m doing a rake into the slide here. So you’re gonna rake from 6 to the 8th fret, and I like to do a little… like that. I also slide my hand. Gives it a lot more attack when you do something like that. Then heavy, heavy vibrato on that note. Then rake to the 3rd fret. 3rd fret on the high E string, 3rd fret of the B string. You’re gonna bar that, just like those other licks we’ve been working on, so you got. So you got… it’s bending 5th fret. And I like to pull off sometime, I kinda do it different every time and that’s the whole point of these licks. But you’re gonna bend up 5, you can either pick it… or pull off. It’s good to be able to do both ways, I like kinda do it different ever way, so... each different time we’re trying to do something different. Anyways, so you bend up the 5… then you do that Chuck Barry style lick again. Then you bend 6 up on the high E string. Pick it down, then you got 6, 3, 3. When you slide to 5…5. Then bend up 5, Chuck Barry lick again. Pull off from 6 to 3, I like to do it with a pinky or third finger, just depends on what the mood I am. And then your pull off bends this fret again, the G string. Then you’re gonna pick these notes really fast… straight down the pentatonic scale. So, this is the whole lick slowly. It’s hard to do the right slow bob, try to do it. So hopefully that’ll make a little bit more sense to you, playing it really slowly like that. You just want to start off slow, and then build it up to speed where you can execute that lick. Let’s try it another time. And that’s full speed. Slowly.
