Hi everybody, it’s Aaron. This song I’m going to teach you right now is a new one by John Rich, which is an awesome song. It’s called Shutting Detroit Down. So I’m going to teach it to you, it’s in standard tuning don’t worry about the capo, I just had that one from our last song. So no capo, standard tuning. This tab that I’m going to give you, I got off the internet of ultimateguitar where I get most of my tabs. And Will Jenkins tabbed this one. So thanks Will, hope you’ll see this, but there are few modifications that I’m going to make. One thing that John Rich does, I’ve watched him played on YouTube videos, and he starts out on the G chord, okay.
[Demonstration]
So in this one, the first verse and stuff it has in the tab, you’ll switch it from a G [demonstration] and the tab says a C2, which is pretty close but it’s a little bit off actually. So you’ve got your G chord here, your fourth finger G, all right. So you’re middle finger—your middle finger is on the third fret of your low E for a G and your pointer finger is on the second fret, okay. So he strum it on the G chord like [demonstration]. So, down, down, up, up, down, up. Then he’s bringing his thumb over muting this string and strumming—strumming all these five strings, but he’s hammering on this A string from the second fret where the pointer finger stays in the G chord to the third fret. And then he all strums it, so it’s [demonstration].
So whenever you see a C2 anywhere in this tab, just remember that it’s not—that’s what a C2 is, okay. It’s just [demonstration] in this tab, I’m not going to change the wording but when you see a C2 in this tab or in the chords, just remember that it’s a G chord [demonstration]. And when you go to C2, you’re strumming the strings [demonstration] but hammering on from the second where this pointer finger is to the third on your A string.
[Demonstration]
Just like that, okay? The strum pattern, down, down, up, up down, up, down, down, up, up, down, up. [Demonstration] See, down, down, up, up, down, up, down, hammer on up, up, down, up. You’re missing that one down strum because it’s covered by the hammering so [demonstration], down, down, up, up, down, up, second chord down, hammer on up, up, down, up. [Demonstration] Okay, hope that helps.
You do that through the first two lines, when you do it the very way, there’s a C3. That is actually just a Cadd9 chord, okay? [Demonstration] So if you see C3, it means Cadd9, okay. The rest of the way through, the second verse, “Now I see all these big shots whining on my evening news, about how they’re losing billions and it’s up to me and you, to come running to the rescue.” That is exactly the same as the first verse, the first two lines are just this whole G [demonstration], C [demonstration], and then C through end it all the way [demonstration], the same thing through the second verse.
Now the pre chorus, “Well, pardon me if I don’t shed a tear, there’s selling make believe and we don’t buy that here.” It is a D chord but the tab says [demonstration]. When it says, “Well, pardon me if I don’t,” then it has an E chord, it’s actually an Em chord. So anywhere you see an E chord in this tab over here, because I’m not going to change the lettering, it’s just going to take me so much time, I get lots of videos. So if you see an E chord, don’t play an E, play an Em, okay.
But that’s just D to E to C, D to E to C. Then the rest of the song, I mean, the chords that it shows are correct. I just remember that, so what I’ll do right now is I’ll play through the intro and verses and then I’ll play your pre chorus of the chorus so.
[Demonstration]
So that’s the first and second verse, pre chorus, chorus and there you go, hope that helps from FreeandEasyGuitar.com. Type in your keyboard, enter, check it out, a lot of cool stuff and a lot of more stuff to come. So take care of this week.
