Okay, I'm leading on with lick number two, lick number two sounds like this. [Demonstration]
Okay, so that was lick number two. It’s got some really cool sounds going on with it. Let’s break it down slowly, the first thing you do, I like to start off with the rake once again. You rake it and slide into the 12 fret on the B-string so [Demonstration]. And then you do this Warren Haynes type thing. We got 10 and then 12, [Demonstration] 10, 12 with your thumb on the G-string, 10 on the B-string, 12 with the G-string. It’s just a common move, you hear one Haynes, do a lot of standard tuning [Demonstration].
You know, at times, he is doing that kind of lick. You got 10 fret, 12 fret and you just slide in the 12 twice and then stop it. A lot of those have mute and some spaces that we’re going to make your slide guitar playing standout is when you mute in between the notes. That gives you the sound of like a singer and you put space between your licks that gives you like room to breathe and create a lot of drama in slide guitar solos.
But that’s the first part of it, slide into it, 10, 12 and the 12 twice. And you move back, start in to nine on the B-string, backwards to eight fret, nine. From the G-string, slide in from seven on the G-string with your thumb.
So the whole lick really slowly. [Demonstration]
So that is lick number. I’ll play for your regular speed again, slowly. [Demonstration]
It sounds good to use your thumb on those last two notes. You get a warmer sound when you use your thumb versus your first finger and it gets more attack. When playing on your finger or second finger, whatever, your thumb has a more smother sound. So when doing different licks you can try out different fingers to get different sounds, different tones and just different ways of achieving a different sound when playing slide guitar by just alternating what fingers using to play the licks.
So anyway, that’s lick number two. I'm going to go ahead and play, I will be backing track for you now.
[Demonstration]
