The intro, there’s really, the chords that we use in this are E minor… a C… a G… a D… ok. So you’re going to strum that three times for the intro. Now if you’re picking, I would just do this for the intro, you know the… like that. Ok, now when you get to the chords, the first verse sound like this… now all that is there is a D, and E minor, a C, a G, starts over D, E minor, C, G, starts over D, E minor, C, G, keeps going all the way through. Now the strum pattern I’m suing for that is, starting with D I’m going down, down, up, down, up, switch to the next chord E minor, down, down, up, down, up, C, down, down, up, down, up, to G, down, down, up, down, up. So they’re almost half measures like D… E minor… C… G… D… E minor… C… G… ok. So that’s what you do on the verse. At the very end of the verse, there’s D, E minor, C, and then it starts over but it just goes D, C, D. “I must be sleeping”. So I’m going to sing the verse for you. It’s a little high for me but then I can do the verse. The chorus is too high for me to sing to sing so I’m just going to show you the strum pattern for the verse. Hopefully this will help. Alright, so he starts on a D, and he starts singing after he plays a little bit of the D so… see… “This is my life. It’s not what it was before. All these feelings I’ve shared and these are my dreams that I’d never lived before. Somebody shake me ‘cause I, I must be sleeping”. So when he says “Somebody shake me”, E minor… “Shake me” and when he gets to the “’Cause I”, that’s two measures of D, so “’Cause I”, down, down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, “Must be” and “Sleeping” is in the C… so that whole verse is just, each chord, down, down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, and at the very end you’ll play two measures of that D… “’Cause I must be… sleeping”… ok then he goes on to the chorus. The chorus is way too high for me to sing so sorry, but that chord formation there, it goes form a G, to a D, to an E minor, to a C, alright. So you’re just going to go G… and this is actually, it’s not a half beat, this if full measures. So instead of half measures, it’s full measure so if the G, the strum pattern you’re going to use in the chorus is this. It’s down, down, up, down, up, down, down, down, up, down, up, so it’s double what you used in the beginning… E minor… C… So it’s just, it starts with a G, down, down, down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, switch to a D, down, down, down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, E minor… to C… starts over… G… to D… E minor… C… completes, you know continues that on the end. AT the very end, “To be the person”, C… you let it ring. So it says “to be the person that I am today”, you know, “I’m not ashamed”, E minor, “To be the person”, play the C and let it ring until you start back in the second verse. Now the second verse, if you’re singing it… keep with the chord strumming… If you have a second guitarist, let him play this one… like that, while you’re strumming along, ok.
The bridge, let’s find it. Alright the bridge is E minor… to G… to C… D… C… E minor… D… ok. So the bridge is a little bit different because it holds some of the notes out for long. So if you look at the tab, it looks like the chords are coming right after each other but don’t switch the strum patterns up. Just keep the same strum pattern so it’s, he goes, “I'm so afraid”… so down, down, up, down, up… switch to G… to C… to D… and then “Please don't shake me”, he plays the C… to an E minor… and then a D for two measures. Then he starts, “Afraid of waking, please don't shake me again”, and that’s the same. It’s E minor to G to C to D during the “Afraid of waking” part, and C, E minor, D, and you play that D twice, because it just says C, E minor, D and it’s blank. And basically in the tab or chords, that means you keep continuing that last chords that it showed you until a new one comes up. So you’re going to play that for two measures. So E minor… G… C… D… “Please don't shake, please don’t wake me again” at C… E minor… D… D… and you repeat that for the second line of the bridge.
Basically guys, that is it, and gals. That’s the whole song. Hope you like it, and congratulation to my one of my best friends in my school, John Badols. He just texted me a little bit ago. He told me he’s engaged. So I’m pretty happy for him. You guys don’t know him but it’s pretty exciting for me so I figured that I’d let you guys know. So take care. Hope the lesson helped and it’s a good day, someday. So I’m going to put some more videos up for you guys. Take care.
