Hey, what’s up guys? It’s Aaron. I got a song I want to teach you and this is a lot of fun to play. It’s really recognized by a lot of people, and most people in other words too. So I think it’s going to be fun for you guys to learn, but it’s by Rihanna and it’s called Take A Bow. So my guitar is in standard tuning. Capo on the fourth fret. As always I want to remind you guys, December 25th, Christmas Day will be the opening day for the website, www.FREEandEASYguitar.com. Check it out on that day. It kind of got a lot of cool stuff. It’s going to have a forum for you guys to post your questions, other people can answer them, give you tips as to what helped them learn it. It’s going to have a chat room that I would be logged into whenever I get the free time. I’m going chat with you guys, stuff like that. I’m just going to have a lot more lessons. So tell your friends. Hopefully if we get enough people on to the site, then maybe we can get some really cool stuff from there. But I will leave that for later. I’ll explain later.
Alright, so standard tuning, capo is on the fourth fret, alright. I personally like to finger pick this song. You can pick it however you’d like now with a pick, or without a finger pick. You can pick with the pick or you can finger pick it. There’s no double notes meaning you don’t have to do two strings at the same time, so that’s usually what dictates whether you have to finger pick this one or not. Alright so the four chords that really make up this whole intro is C… a G… an A minor seven. A minor seven is just like you’re a minor except that you’re missing your middle finger, so you have... or your ring finger. So your middle finger is on the third string down second fret, and then the fifth string down from the top or the second string up from the bottom, your B string, your pointer finger is on this first fret… sounds like that. The last chord is a bar chord. It’s an F, so you’re barring across all six strings on the first fret above the capo. Then your middle finger comes here on the fourth string down, second fret. Ring and pinky, second and third string down from the top, so your A and D. You’re going to put those. That’s going to be on the third fret… alright. So your chord progression is C… G… A minor seven… F… alright. Now the intro, the intro may seem tricky for you guys at first but really it’s pretty self-explanatory once you get into it so juts stick with it, alright.
The first thing we’re going to start off is in the C chord, do your pointer finger is on the B string on the first fret. Then the third string down from the top is your D and that’ s where your middle finger is going to be, on the second fret, and your ring finger goes to the A string, second one down from the top on the third fret. Alright, and then your pinky, this is actually going to be kind of a variation of a C because for this intro, your pinky is going to go on the third fret of your high E. So your pinky’s here, pointer finger is here, the middle is here, ring is here. Alright so what you’re going to pick is you’re going to pick you’re a string, you’re going to go… so you’re going to pick from the top of the second string down your A string and you’re going to pick the G, B and E. So if you’re numbering them from the bottom to the top, one, two, three, four, five, six, so then it would be five, three, two, one… alright. So if you’re numbering them in standard how most people number them, it’s five, three, two, one, alright, or if you know the names it’s A, G, B, E. Alright, one you do that, what you’re going to do is while this last note is ringing out, you’re going to take this ring finger and just move it up here to the third fret on your low E… and that’s going to be your first note. Alright, your second, you’re going to play that… third fret on the low E, top string… then you’re going to play the one, two, three, four strings down your G string open. Then on the next string down your B string and the second one up from the top, this one, you’re going to play, play it open first… then put your pointer finger down the first fret and play it again. So that’s second part sounds like this… like that. The tabs are over here so just pull those up and look at it. So from the beginning you have… ok.
The third part is really, I like to just keep that pointer finger there on the first fret where it was on your C and then on that last chord so keep that pointer finger there. The next riff is… so you’re going to play your A string, your second string down from the top, right here open. Then you’re going to play your G string with your middle on the second fret, so you move that middle finger from here down to here. Alright so it’s on your G string and you play… second fret, that middle finger down the G string… first fret pointer on your B string, and then the high E you want to play the first fret too. Now I found it when I’m learning it, when I go from this C… it’s much easier for me to just move that ring finger down and play the A string… G, B and then right before I get to play that high E, I just roll my finger down from there, so… so it covers that. You could bar these first two strings and you just take your middle there… but I think easier to just play open A with your middle finger second fret, B string pointer finger first fret and then after you play that part, you roll your pointer finger down so it’s holding first fret high E… play that, ok. So from the top, it’s like this… then you already have your finger rolled here, you take this thumb and your thumb is actually going to play the first fret of your low E. OS you play that first fret, you go… boom, high E open. Then on the B string, your second string from the bottom, you’re going to play three, one. So the last part is like this… alright. So you’re going to do that whole thing three times, alright. So it starts at your C… do that ring finger up to third fret of the low E… play the low E, play the G... open the B, first fret B… play the pointer finger where it finishes and move that middle finger down and you’re going to play… open A, G second fret, B first fret, e first fret, thumb first fret of your low E. High E open, then three, one. Alright you do that three times. So… alright. After on the third time, you’re going to do the C part the same, you’re going to go… but then after three times, the fourth time, you’re going to go… then instead of going to this up here on the third fret, just take your middle finger and put it on the second fret right here of your A string and you’re going to play second fret A… and then you’re going to play the open G, then three, one on the B. So it sounds like the very last time, you play three times the first time. The last time sounds like this… like that. Alright, now let’s the into the…
