Okay, now on the second line of the intro, is the exact same first half is exactly the same as the first line of the intro halfway through. So this whole part from earlier, the [Demonstration], is the same, okay. The only thing different is whenever you get to that part halfway through the line, you’ll see the tab and there's actually on—I’ll mark it on the tab with Xs down, okay. All that Xs mean is up to that point, the second line through the intro is the same as the first one to the intro, okay.
I’ll put the Xs on both line of the tabs. And then, once you get to the Xs there, I want you to realize that from there on now, it is going to be a little different, okay. And the way it’s going to be different is instead of playing the three [Demonstration], what we did the first time through, you're going to play [Demonstration], that three again, low E, but now you’re going to play an open [Demonstration] D string and G. So on the first line, I’m going to play three over six, one, two. Now, we’re going to play six, four, three, okay. So six, four, three, then we’re going to play the open A [Demonstration] and hammer on the second fret. So [Demonstration], you play that A string open, hammer on the second fret, then you’re going to play the D and the G string is open. Then, you’re going to make an A chord and you’re going to play [Demonstration] open A, D string, G string, B string and when you play that B, you're going to hammer on from the second to the third fret, okay.
So that second half of the second line of the intro is.
[Demonstration]
Okay, now we only have to do a bar is since you’re not playing this high E here on this A chord, you can just bar the bottom four strings, okay, and that makes it easy because when you play the [Demonstration] and you play the B string on the second fret, you can hammer on them with either one of these fingers, one of the third fret, makes it really easy. Or you can play your A chord [Demonstration] and slide a finger up to the third fret.
So, that’s the intro guys. Now, we’re going to move in to the verse, okay. So for the verse of this song, it’s really going to be pretty simple. I want you to make a D chord [Demonstration], okay. You don’t need this middle finger here on the high E, so all you need is your pointer finger on the second fret [Demonstration] of your three string, okay, and then on your two string, which is actually your B string, your ring finger needs to go on the third fret, okay. So this whole counts of the verse, it repeats this.
[Demonstration]
Okay, so what I’m going to show you here, I’ll play it one more time.
[Demonstration]
Okay, so if you’ll look at the tab there, you got your pointer finger on the second fret of your G string [Demonstration], which is your three string and your ring finger on the second fret B [Demonstration]. Okay, the first thing I’m going to play is an open D [Demonstration] and then you’re going to play the G string and the B string. So numbering, one, two, three, four, five, six, you’re going to play [Demonstration] four, three, two, then you got to put your pinky up here on the fourth fret of your A string and you’re going to play five, four, three. Or, if you prefer—now the tab I have five, four, three, you could also play five, three, two if you prefer, okay. So five, four three sounds like this [Demonstration], that’s what the five, four, three picking pattern. Now, five, two, three sounds like this [Demonstration].
It’s up to you. Some people like the five, four, five, three, two picking pattern better even though I know that in the song it’s five, four, three, okay. So I’m going to teach you five, four, three, you can change it yourself if you’d like. So you got these two fingers here in your D chord, you’re going to play the four string [Demonstration], three string, two string, I'm sorry, four, three, two, your pinky comes up here on the five string and you’re going to play on the fourth fret of that, that’s where your pinky, five, four, three. Then, you’re going to lift your pinky up and put this middle finger over here to the second fret of that the five string or A string you’re going to play. Again, five, four, three, middle finger off, so you’re playing the A string open [Demonstration], five, four, three and then you repeat.
So slowly, I’ll play this. I’m going to just call up the strings I'm picking, [Demonstration] four, three, two, five, four, three, five, four, three, five, four, three. Okay so [Demonstration]. And just repeat that through verse, okay. So that’s all there is for the verse. When you get to the chorus, there is a little bit of variation. The first time to the chorus, the chorus starts, “I was breaking hearts, and taking names and numbers just for fun.” So I was breaking hearts is the start of the chorus. And all you need for that is you put your ring finger on the third fret of your low E string and you’re going to play three [Demonstration] on that sixth string and you’re going pick the four, three. So you’re going to play six, four, three, then move down, hold the second fret of your low E and play six, four, three, take this finger off, you play the E string open, six, four, three. Then you’re gong to play [Demonstration]. That’s just five, four, three open.
So you’re going to play, [Demonstration] six, four, three, six four, three, six, four, three, five, four, three. So [Demonstration]. Okay, now after you did this last five, four, three, I want you to make a D chord and you’re going to play the [Demonstration] D, which is your open note plus your G string, fourth string up, one, two, three, four. And you’re going to play D and you’re going to play the G string, which your pointer finger is on the second fret, B string, which your ring finger is on the third fret. Then we could play the high E, okay, you can play it open or you can play it on the second fret. The way I play it sounds like this [Demonstration]. Okay, so what I do is [Demonstration], I play four, three, two, one open, hammer on my middle finger to the second fret and pull it off, so [Demonstration] when I did that pull off, I'm pointing it down to the side like this [Demonstration]. So [Demonstration] like that okay.
So during that D chord I go [Demonstration], I play back up, four, three, two, one, two, three, and I switch to a G chord, the fourth finger G and I play six, four, three, one, two, three, okay. Check out the tabs, it’s easy for you to figure out. But when I’m going to play the chorus, it goes like this [Demonstration]. Okay, that’s the first line through.
The second line through the chorus starts out the same first half, the same way. The [Demonstration] three, six, four, three, six, four, three, six, four, three, six, four, three, and halfway through there, that’s, “Stealing kisses wishing I was twenty one,” then you go back and play the second half of the intro that you’ve learned on the first lesson. [Demonstration] Something like that, okay.
So you’ll see, play the second line of the intro in the tab, that’s what you do. So that’s it for the chorus. The only thing it’s going to be different now basically is the bridge. The bridge is probably the second hardest part of the song after the intro.
